This is NOT normal ...

My husband and I are going to Charlotte to visit my family and then straght to Miami to help SIL move into college. We will be gone for 10 days! I am freaking out about leaving Lola, my 5 month old chihuahua! My best friends are staying at the house to watch her, I know they will love her and everyhing but Im scared of the her getting hurt, something happening to her, getting lose, not "bonding" with them, being lonely, etc.

I will miss her soooooooooo much! I am having anxiety about this. I know it's crazy and silly but I really am having a hard time lol

First off, Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . You are not crazy to feel the way you are feeling, but she will be alright. It's so nice that you have friends willing to stay with her so she doesn't have to be boarded and can be in her own home. I'm sure she will be fine. She'll have the run of the house while your gone!Chat Icon

I totally understand and go through this every time we leave Misty...I have learned to control myself though, and she always ends up being fine. They are much more adaptable than you would think....Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: This is NOT normal ...

i know what you mean, I once came home from Florida two days before DH & our kids because I was worried about Jack.
Now with the chickens & the Bunny I worry even more, but they are always fine & our friends that watch them are so good to all of them.

Enjoy your trip, she will have fun getting spoiled! Chat Icon

your not crazy -- i felt the same way when we left hershey with my IL's while we were in st maarten

maybe you can ask them to send you updated texts everyday to let you know how things are going! thats what i did when my friend came by a few times to clean my cat's litter box and check up on him while we were away... it eased my mind lot!

Re: This is NOT normal ...

It is totally normal!! The first time we left Amber (for a weekend!) it killed me. And my brother stayed at our house with her and was home with her basically the whole time so she got tons of attention and play time - yet I couldn't wait to get home to see her!

Based on this, I really worry what it will be like when I have kids and have to leave them the first time!!

Re: This is NOT normal ...

try not to stress. your dog is better off having someone staying at your house then being boarded at the vet or something. she will be in her normal safe and comfy environement.

DH and I recently went to Mexico for a week and had my sister stay at my house. we are so happy we did this. we didnt have to worry about him, we knew that if anything happened or strange was goingon my sister would call and let us know. I think i would have been more upset with her being boarded at the vet, because you always wonder if they are going to contact you or if something is going to happen to them there.

My cat was fine when we got back and wasnt at all tramatized his he was in his own home. but he did miss us =)

I am the same way,the good this is that you have someone that is going to stay in the house with her. This way she is going to be in her environment and not in a strange new place. Chat Icon Everything is going to be alright, just leave list with all her info, from how many time a day she eats to the amount, the information in her chip (just incase), vet info etc.

It IS normal for pet people! I'm the same way when I have to leave my chi's...the anxiety of leaving them ruins the beginning of my vacation every time! My parents take turns staying at my house, but it's still hard to leave them! Bottom line is, your baby will be fine! I know it seems like it's hard to get through it now, but you will! And she will be fine! Good luck!

Re: This is NOT normal ...

I know how you feel. The first time we had to go out of town for a family wedding, we left our puppy with my MIL. We called her everyday to see how our little girl was doing.

Now, when we go on vacation, I still stress for her, but she enjoys her visits with my MIL and her dog, and we call in every few days to check on her.

Call your friends while away.......your dog is your family and you're the mommy and want only the best for her!
