Wet Basements

Yesterday, DH and I looked at a house we really liked, in fact the best house we have seen yet.

Today, we get the property disclosure and it reads "During heavy rains - if there is no power to property - sump pump will not work - may have water present in the basement."

Would you still consider the house or should we move on?

Re: Wet Basements

I grew up in a house with a wet basement- but we didnt have a pump- and I remember everytime it rained how much work it was for my dad... that being said, is it possible to find out how often they lose power? I know in my neighborhood, its only happened like once or twice in the ten years that I have lived here

long winded, but I think yes, I would go for it if I loved everything else about the house

I'd move on. I'd think for them to list that probably means it happens pretty frequently.

Sorry.......but I would move on also. Not worth the hassle nevermind the health issues it may cause in the future if mold becomes a problem.

Thanks. I figured we should move on.

I am bummed, although I am sure I would not want to deal with a basement flooding even if it did only happen occasionally when the power is out.

Plus, my DH has bad allergies, but refuses to get tested to see what it is and any mold would only aggravate the situation.
