What can I do about my little Zippy!?!?
Ok so, Zippy is a WONDERFUL cat! He is ideal in every way....... Sweet, friendly, etc.
Except for one fault..........
When we pet him, he will purr ... and purr.... and purr......... when all of a sudden .. CHOMP! He will reach over and take a big bite! (WHILE HE IS STILL PURRING AND HAPPY!!) He does this to my other cat too! He licks and licks and licks, when all of a sudden he bites her!
How can I put an end to this? He is about a year and a half. Is this something he will likely grow out of? It's very annoying because though he has never bitten through the skin, it's still painful!
TIA!

Re: What can I do about my little Zippy!?!?
I had a cat that used to do this. I swear, I feel like sometimes they get overstimulated with the petting or something. They say the best thing to do is to stand up and walk away. Stop the petting, say NO loudly and get up and walk away. I am not sure if this will work for you- it really didn't for me but I think I waited until she was too old to try it. Plus, she was a bit of a tempermental cat so the biting just might have been part of her personality.
But you say your kitty is sweet and affectionate so this might work.

my MIL cat does the samething. he's so sweet but all of a sudden he'll just bite you right in the middle of you petting him. he doesnt bit down hard so it really doesnt hurt but his teeth are still sharp. MIL said its his way of playing which i guess is right cause my dogs do it to sometimes. try doing what the PP said, say no and stop petting him.

Thanks, I actually already do this! It's very odd...... I mean he does it while he's purring so I ASSUME he's happy and just biting in a playful way!
I'm hoping this will just be something he will grow out of
My DH and I nickname him "the @sshole" because of what he does.......
