Closing....

So.....does everyone go to closing at the same time? Buyers & Sellers?

Just curious...I don't think the sellers like us very much because of some things we asked for (which, ultimately, they agreed to)...it would be awkward to have to be in the same place with them...Chat Icon

Although I am quite thankful that they accepted our offer Chat Icon and would like to give them a hug Chat Icon

Re: Closing....

Yup, it's you, the seller, the lawyers, and a lawyer from the bank where you are getting your mortgage. Oh, and a closer? Or title person? And the REA if they want to get their checks right then.

Re: Closing....

Yes everyone is present but sometimes Sellers will arrive about a half hour after the closing to give the buyers time to sign everything. otherwise they usually just sit around.

Re: Closing....

Yes, everyone is there. We didn't have a nice experience at all with our sellers. There was even a little tiff in the closing room, b/c we were asking for more money off, after all we went through.

Re: Closing....

Yup, you'll all be there together. We had some issues at the closing because all of the sudden, the seller wanted to take certain BUILT-INs with her. Chat Icon

Unless something unexpected comes up, it really won't be uncomfortable. It's not like you have to make small talk. Chat Icon The negotiating is done - they are ready and willing to sign the house over to you, so I wouldn't worry about what you asked for. Chat Icon

Re: Closing....

For us, the sellers weren't there, but it was an estate selling it and they had pre-signed everything and given it to their attorney in advance. My experience was not typical though.

For our closing the seller was there, he was really nice though so it wasn't uncomfortable at all. I think in some cases the seller can give his lawyer power of attorney and they don't have to be present.

Yup everyone will be present.

Our seller stared at us as we signed each and every document with tears streaming down her face. (It was the house she grew up in and she was super emotional throughout the entire process)

Good times.

Wow, that must have been uncomfortable!

The seller of our house also grew up there and seemed sad, but luckily he wasn't crying. He was also a jerk about a few issues, one that had to be fixed before our bank would sign off on our mortgage (the listing agent ended up paying to fix it just to close the deal), but all that was water under the bridge at the closing table. Honestly, we were so excited and focused on ourselves to even care about his jerkiness or emotions at that point.

Oh, and we all arrived at the same time.

Re: Closing....

our seller wasn't there since she was also closing on the house she was buying on the same day.
her attorney came a bit after we got to our attorney's office.
our REA was there and the seller's REA was there too.

Re: Closing....

yup everyone was there at ours too, but don't worry about the sellers being there. You sit next to your lawyer and sign everything...period the end. You don't have to talk with them if you don't want to. No worries. Congrats again! Chat Icon

We felt the same way - just so happy to have the long process over, it didn't even matter anymore. Plus it is the last time you ever have to see those people. Even though we had a nightmare process, by the closing it was fine and professional.
