Spinoff: Grass Seed
How do you know what to buy? We just bought a house and the grass needs some serious love - lots of weeds in the grass .... I put down Scotts weed and feed and now I have brown patches.
Any good websites to get advice on how to fix everything and make my grass lush?

Re: Spinoff: Grass Seed
Scotts, Home Depot and Lowes all have lawn care sections on their web sites.
as far as buying grass seed, the most basic way is to buy the packages by yard condition - sunny mix, shade mix, etc. Or you can research different types of grass and then pick what you want your lawn to be made up of.
Scotts also does the 1-2-3-4 systems where 1 goes down in early spring, 2 in the spring, etc. Each one if formulated for needs of that time of the year.
If starting a new lawn from scratch you might want to call in a pro to save you some time
Edit for brown patches
Any chance you put too much weed and feed down?

Re: Spinoff: Grass Seed
Thanks for the info ---
The brown patches are just where the weeds were --there were these white flowery weeds in patches and that's where the brown patches are now. I don't have too may clovers or dandilions (a few here and there), it was just really those flowery spots that are now brown.

I would guess those brown spots are dead weeds

If you are in Nassau I would go to Hicks nursery and talk to a lawn person they can give you good advice.

Re: Spinoff: Grass Seed
Hicks is a good idea. Thank you.
I put it down 2 weeks ago. The grass overall could use some love --- it's not that thick and now the brown patches make it look even worse.
