I have been there 3X and really enjoy the place. The food is good, portions are just right (Not too much and not too little).

It is a long dinner, so be prepared to be there for a couple of hours.

I would def recommend it for a special occasion.

Re: Melting Pot in Farmingdale

To be completely honest, I wasn't all that impressed by the Melting Pot. DH and I went shortly after it opened. The service was very good, and it was a unique dining experience, but we thought it was way overpriced and over rated otherwise. We did the "Big Night Out", which if I remember correctly included a salad, cheese fondue, main entree, and chocolate fondue. We loved the cheese and chocolate (who doesn't?), but we were disappointed in the main entree. They bring out your meat/chicken/seafood in raw pieces for you to cook yourselves in broth. I kinda feel like for the price they charge they should bring you out a fully prepared main entree. If by some small chance we go back, I think we'd skip the main meal and just do cheese and chocolate.

ETA: Happy Anniversary!

I did see how much the price was but I got a coupon from Newsday for $37/couple so I thought that was really good.
Thanks so much :)

I agree. Great fondue, but overpriced and over rated, especially when it comes to the main course. On the positive side, it is a nice long dinner so it's great for a special occasion like an anniversary.

Oh wow, well for $37 I'd definitely do it! Like I said, it is a unique experience, and as someone else mentioned it's great for a special occassion or date night because you're they're for a few hours and definitely not rushed. Hope you have a great time!

I agree! We went for my bday and it was fun and different, but way overpriced IMO.

The cheese and choclate fondue was great, but the main course was bland and not very appetizing- just meat cooked in some kind of oil or something. I would have rather had a real main course.

We liked it, but don't really plan to go back.

Dh and I go there for a few special occasions. If you sign up for emails etc they send you coupons for free desserts for your birthday and anniversary etc.

We tell them what we are celebrating and they give us a special table (last time it was right in front of the fireplace) and quiet - and they give you a card or balloons etc.

The food is not 5 star but honestly it is a nice date place to go - we have other restaurants we like better like coolfish etc - but we enjoy going here more b.c honestly it is a nice quiet LONG meal that they don't rush you (think 2-3 hours for your meal if you do the big night out). It is about $85 a couple for the base big night out (cheese fondue, salad, entree and chocolate fondue) and we have a coupon for a free dessert when we go - and then you have to pay for drinks.

Since I'm at the end of my pregnancy we didn't want to go far or long for our 5 year anniversary so we spent the night at the hyatt regency windwatch and then had dinner there to get a little alone adult time away (we have a 22.5 month old at home). We had a relaxed meal the manager gave us non alcoholic champagne and a table in front of the fireplace (the sides of the booth are about a foot higher than your head so it is pretty private).

Re: Melting Pot in Farmingdale

I went there for my birthday, after years of wanting to, and I loved it! Before I went, I thought it was overpriced, but I didn't realize hoe much food you actually get!! I do agree the main course was the weakest, but it still was really good. Dessert was the best, so good!!! The place is huge and quiet, too.

My issue was the service... we were in a section of 7 or so tables. We were the only ones there at first, then by the time we let, it was almost full.. There were 4 servers (at least) for the section! So I think we were ignored more because we were out of the way. And our server didn't explain a lot of stuff (we found out after overhearing people next to us). But all of the staff was really friendly and nice.

I can't wait t go back Chat Icon

Thanks. I told the girl it was our anniversary and she asked how many years. I also got a coupon for $37 in the Newsday Fun Book so that is why we chose it also.

Personally, I really like it...I haven't had a bad experience yet...I think we have been to the one in Farmingdale 4 times, and we are going back in about a week...If you don't want the experience of cooking the entree yourself, then I would say skip it. I kinda like it though cause it's different than going to a normal restaurant...I LOVE the cheese...and the bananas foster's dessert fondue is my favorite!!! Definitely a good place for special occassions...
