I'm not sure if what we had was carpenter ants- but we went to home depot and told the guy there what the problem was and they sold us some kind of spray that took them out like no one's business- I dont remember the name of it- but I would try that route first unless you are infested with them

If it's carpenters ants, you can't just buy a spray.
We had them last year, ughhhh. They were ALL around our front window....which is huge. We called regal exterminators and they had to punch holes (pencil sized holes) inside our house ALL around our entire window, they sprayed, then through some powdered stuff in. We had take our molding off the window, then fix all the holes, re-paint it was not fun but if we didn't call they would've eaten through the wood under our window. Turned out we had a leak in our front window, water was getting in, and the wood under our molding was wet & they go where the moisture is.
I don't remember how much we paid.

not sure where you are located... but i have a GREAT guy if you are in suffolk/eastern nassau.... you pay $250 and he will come as many times as you need him to between april-august.... we had a HUGEEEEE any problem when we moved into our house last summer and he was AMAZING! highly reccomend him!
i dont have his info with me at work, but if you are interested, i will FM you the info tonight

We had them last year. We used Knockout Exterminators. We liked the service so much we signed up for a contract with them. They spray every 3 months.

Yeah, we just had a leak in our basement and that's when we started noticing the ants.
Did you guys need these people to come back? THey couldn't wipe them out the first time? I'm curious cause I've been reading about people signing up with contracts for these people to keep coming back and I'm wondering why they have to keep coming back?

Ours did not come back ::knocking on wood". We fixed the leak and it took care of it. We did not sign a contract or anything with them. We do have regular ants every year, but those we spray for ourselves and so far this year, we've been successful.
