Breeder Advice

We really want a Yorkie. We want to go to a reputable breeder so we started with the ones who are "AKC Approved" from the AKC web site. The problem is, they all want over $2000

We have no interest in "showing the dog." We just want a Yorkie.

We obviously would not go to a pet store. We also hear that no reputable breeder advertises in the newspaper. So what are we to do??? How can we find a Yorkie that comes from a reputable breeder that isn't thousands of dollars?

Also, we have looked into the shelters (which would be our first choice--to rescue one) but none of them seem to get Yorkies in and we have been told that it is very rare.

Any advice/help/recommendations would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!

Check out petfinder.com, I found a whole bunch of yorkies in the general area! And it's to adopt...

I agree with the other poster, I would look into adoption first. Most breeders are going to charge $1000 + for a pure breed Yorkie.

One of the reasons Yorkies are so much is because of their size many of them have to have c-sections. Good luck with your search!

Re: Breeder Advice

definitely try and find one from a shelter first but go to the yorkie club of america website and you'll find the responsible breeders on there. also do alot of research on this breed. i know alot of people want them because they're cute but they do have some behavioral issues so just make sure this breed is 100% for you and your famiy

Exactly what I was going to say. A lady I work with has 2 adorable Yorkies and both were rescues. Good luck.
