Does anyone else do this?

For some reason I like to get new dresses for every event. Well, most events are with DH's family, so I have to wear something new Chat Icon

For more casual dresses, I can re-purpose the and just wear them during the summer months when I feel like a dress. But for the fancy ones I wear to weddings, I feel so guilty! But either I end up not wanting to re-wear them, or my body changes (I go up and down in weight and muscle) and they no longer fit.

I feel so bad! Tell me this happens to someone else. What do you do? How many wearings do you get out of your fancier dresses?

I may have posted something similar like this before, but this weekend seeing those dresses in my closet made me feel bad again!

Re: Does anyone else do this?

I sell them on ebay to recoup money spent

I never pay full price for anything- so I tend to get almost all my money back

example- dress from Century 21 for my Dad's wedding- paid $50

wore it once

sold it on ebay for $40

Re: Does anyone else do this?

I would say most dresses I try to wear at least twice or 3 times, but at events with different audiences hehe…for example, I have a green cocktail dress (very distinctive color) that I bought for a friend’s wedding…I have worn it at least 3 additional times, twice to formal night on cruises (one with DH’s whole family and one just DH and I), and once to another friend’s wedding (no common guests). I have a black and blue cocktail dress (also quite distinctive…) that I have worn twice, once to DH’s rugby banquet and once to DH’s friend’s wedding….the green dress was one of the few dresses I have ever bought at full price, and it was b/c I was desperate…had a pink strapless dress and got a TERRIBLE sunburn that looked horrible with the dress the week of the wedding…this dress covered the sunburn so I returned the other one and bought the green. I feel like I got my money’s worth on that one already!

Every other cocktail dress I have I have gotten on clearance one way or another, so I don’t feel as guilty. The black and blue taffeta I got at xmas 2 years ago on clearance at Macy’s for $25 (originally $150), this winter I got a purple cocktail dress at Banana for $18 on clearance (originally $170)…and I think I’ll get at least one more wearing out of it. Come to think of it, I bought 3 cocktail dresses this year and didn’t spend more than $25 on any of them, although they all would have retailed for over $100…such great sales this year! One I got on clearance at Macy’s (and used an extra coupon), and the other I got on clearance at Marshall’s, although I also saw it at Macy’s….all are very nice and you’d never know!

Wow that was long. Bottom line, I try to get as many wearings as possible, but I also shop around A LOT to get good quality at a good price so I don’t feel guilty even if I do wear only once!

Re: Does anyone else do this?

It really depends Chat Icon

I wore a dress to a wedding a few years ago and never wore it again because I haven't had a reason to. I just got a new dress for a wedding I'm going to in a few weeks and I plan to wear it to another wedding in June Chat Icon And hopefully there will be other events to wear it to.

It really depends on what the year is like, if it's busy event-wise.

I try to get additional wearings out of cocktail dresses by wearing them to work -- throw on a fitted blazer or more casual cardigan, ditch the fancy strappy heels, and many dresses can become work appropriate. (Doesn't work with all dresses, though...)

Re: Does anyone else do this?

I always bought new dresses for events, but this year I decided I am going to recycle one of my dresses. It's a beautiful dress and it fits me so much better since I lost weight, plus I saved a ton of money so it works out.
