Author Studies for Kindergarten?

I want to do an author study the week we come back with my Kindergarten class. I can't do Eric Carle (we do him in May) or Jan Brett (did in December) and 1st grade does Kevin Henkes, so he's out. I would love to do Mo Willems but I'm not sure what activities to incorporate. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We did a lot for Dr. Seuss for his birthday back in March.

I second ezra jack keats

I think Mo williems would be great too - you can have them make some kind of finger/stick puppets of some of the characters and have them do a partner read and then act out with their puppets.

the same could be done with Laura Numeroff

does your library have rookie readers (or non-fiction? you can do a non-fiction month...helen frost...jerry pallotta...bobbie kalman...lynn stone are great non-fiction authors for this age.

have you done caldecotts? doreen cronin? marc brown? tomie de paola? donald crews? gail gibbons (also great for non-fiction)

Re: Author Studies for Kindergarten?

My son loves a book Smash/Crash. There are multiple books in the "series". The author actually came to visit the elementary school.

David Shannon (Not the best but simple enough with big pics and small text)
Jann Brett - Love her books! We study her in first. Some others we study are:
Tomie DePaola, Audrey Wood, Mem Fox and this year I did Robert Munsch, his book, I Love Your Forever, touched my heart, having a daughter..love these authors.

Re: Author Studies for Kindergarten?

def do mo willems! I teach kindergarten also and my kids LOVE mo willems....his books are great and his drawings are pretty simple, my students all learned how to draw the pigeon. You can have them write their own book, like "Don't let the pigeon watch TV" or whatever
