cat food
We just adopted a kitten and I have been doing some reseach online, for what its worth, on the pros and cons of wet versus dry food We were planning to give him wet food, but the pros (for me) of the dry food, with some wet food seem worth it He would have wet food for breakfast and dry food left out during the day, which he could nibble on, then at night I would give him wet food, depending on when we get home. What are your opinions? Can he have both? Does it have to be all wet and / or all dry? I am also considering a timed feeder - what do you think of those?
One of the reasons we choose a cat over a dog is that there are times we both have long work days (7-7), and leaving dry food out ensures he has something to eat
We are also thinking of adopting his brother, so he has company.

Re: cat food
That is what my husband does with his cats - he feed them wet at dinnertime and then has dry out all the time. Just experiment and see what types of food, brands and flavors the cat likes.
I don't think I'd use a timed feeder unless your kitten was eating TOO much.

Re: cat food
my Midnight has dry food out all the time (Pet Promise) and gets wet food once a day (Meow Mix in the yellow plastic containers) We also as a treat every few days give him a bit of the "cat milk" they have (I think wiskars makes it) He LOVES it !! (and he's a year old !!)
When he was really little I didn't leave out a lot of food during the day because I was worried about him overeating, but I read a bunch of things on line that say that they won't over eat. If they do throw up it's because they ate to fast (which Midnight has done a bunch of times !)
Good luck with your new baby !!!

We do the same; but we don't measure it out. I'll just fill up the bowl and keep an eye on it and refill as necessary. There are no particular 'feeding times'.

Re: cat food
When we got our kitten, I asked my vet what he recommended. He likes giving both. I leave dry out all day and kitty can "graze" at will. I started out feeding her wet once a day in the morning. Last time I went to the vet, he told me to up it since she was so "lean." So now she gets a container of wet in the morning and at dinner time. Vet likes the wet to insure that kitty gets enough liquid and the dry to keep her teeth clean. Seems to be working out.

My cats have dry food all the time. Sometimes we give them a little wet food as a treat.
