pretzel rods???
I dont know if its just me being paranoid or what but yesterday I do go over to my SIL house to pick up my son ( she was watching him for an hour) and her son- who is the same age as Bryan 8 months is eating a pretzel rod with salt and chocking on the sharp pieces!!! Is this right can 8months olds eat pretzel rods? Thank goodness she didnt give Bryan any but at what age is it ok to give prezel rods. Im sitting here wondering if I should even start puffs

Re: pretzel rods???
I wouldn't give an 8 month old pretzel rods. I think they are too easy to choke on.

Re: pretzel rods???
I just started giving my son pretzel rods (cautiously of course) and he's over 2 yrs old. I still sit next to him reminding him to chew and take little bites. 8 months definitely too young.

Re: pretzel rods???
Anything shaped like that (long, round tubes....cheese sticks, baby carrots, grapes, hot dogs, dum dum lollipops) are a choking hazards as they act like a plug when stuck in a child's wind pipe.
If you give young children these foods, cut them down the middle length wise. That way if the food does get stuck there is still a small opening where air can get through.
Marshmellows are bad also as they turn "taffy-like" when chewed and if a child stuffs enough of them in their mouth, the heimlich isn't going to get them out.
(I learned this in a CPR class)

Re: pretzel rods???
I'm guilty of this, but only if i am sitting right there, I watcj very closely, my son is 6 months and he loves to **** on them and bite on them because he is teething, as soon a it gets soft i switch to the other side of the rod, i did this with all 3 kids, but only with extremely close supervision.
