My registry regrets

Putting on:
Blankets (I ended up getting soooo many)

Bedding (it really was a waste since I do not use the bumper OR curtains)

Not putting on:
A VIDEO monitor (even if you have a small place you won't want to disturb the baby and if you are anything like me- a nervous nellie- I like to be able to check on the baby at least once an hour and when I wake in the middle of the night)

Just thought I'd share. Chat Icon

Re: My registry regrets

I def. agree with the blankets. My DD already has 15 blankets and my mother is knitting her one also. I guess the good thing is i won't have to wash them so frequently cause she has so many...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: My registry regrets

I am on my second time around with motherhood but I couldn't agree with you more about the video monitor. In the beginning, I just had a regular audio monitor but then after about 6 months I got a video monitor and it is great. I still use it and DD is over 2 years old.

Re: My registry regrets

I agree, blankets and onesies. People will buy these for you, no need to put them on the registry. We had about 50qty 0-3 month onesies.Chat Icon

Re: My registry regrets

don't bother registering for clothes - people will buy what THEY like Chat Icon and it will be MORE than enough.

things i could not have lived without - my Boppy and now, my video monitor! i use the summer day and night handheld, i am pretty sure it's the most popular one the mommies on LIF use, and it has been a lifesaver!

register for all the big stuff - really, don't be shy! you will be surpised at how generous people are and some people like to go in together to get big gifts.

Re: My registry regrets

I WISH I had gotten a video monitor, but I have to say I LOVE the angel care system (monitors heart beat). That has saved me from checking on DD like 50 times a night Chat Icon

you will absolutely NOT need blankets, but plain white onesizes I would keep on. I put longsleeved ones under DD's clothes now, and sometimes the shortsleeve ones in the summer when she was born.

I disagree about the bedding, while I don't use the bumpers I use the comforter on the rocker, it would help when I nursed DD to have it supporting her on my arm and I lay it on the ground and she lays on it when I put clothes away in her room.

I wish I had put more birp cloths, wash cloths and bath towels b/c you go through so many and I am constantly doing laundry!!

Def agree about blankets. I returned all the ones on my registry. LOOOOVE the summer video monitor.

Bedding so far is a waste for me too. I'm hoping when DD goes to the toddler bed that I can use the comforter that came with the set then. Right now I still have her in a sleep sack.

Re: My registry regrets

My regret is not registering for the next size car seat after the infant one (only goes up to 22lbs) My DS is 5 /12 months and already 21lbs. So we went out last week and bought a rear facing convertable that goes up to 60lbs. I didn't even think about that when registering.

The other things is don't bother registering for newborn diapers unless you know you will have a premie my DS was in size 1 in the hospital.

Re: My registry regrets

On the note of the video monitors…I didn’t have one and didn’t really miss it during the first year, but then I got one because DS was going through a BAD sleeping spell around 12 months…now I cant live without it and its only been 1 month since we gotit.

But to let you know from our experience
We bought the graco video monitor…it is supposed to be all digital, works on 2.4 blah blah instead of the same frequency as the cordless phones, also its made so you can’t pick up a picture from any camera other than the one in yoru house (unlike the summer one where people say they sometimes look in the monitor and its not their crib)

Anyway, her are the pros and cons
Graco: Pros: Small video unit (about the size of a fat cell phone), all digital, clear picture, has a vibrate function which is nice if you are outside you can stick it in your pocket and it will vibrate if there is noise in the room.
Cons: major audio delay, cant turn the volume ALL the way down, messed up our wireless router, bad battery life

So we decided to buy the summer one as well to compare
Summer was much better overall. No delay in audio, volume can be turned off (well all the way down) battery life seems better so far. Cons are that the unit is much more cumbersome but we plan on returning the graco one for the summer one!

ETA: If you are looking fo rjust an audio monitor, I love my Graco Imonitor, its so crystal clear I can her my son breathing!
