Spinoff: Bugaboo

I feel totally and utterly lost in the stroller department! I live in a city and walk EVERYWHERE. I hardly ever use a car and take the bus or train every so often, so the travel systems aren't top of my list. I need a stroller that is going to be durable and take the abuse that walking around a city will bring. Also, it rains a lot here, so that's a consideration too.

For those that love the Bugaboo, I'd love to hear why.

For those that don't like it - tell me why and what stroller you like better!

I think the fact that you live in the city and walk everywhere is the key part of your question - I would definitely get it. I have the cameleon - I lived in the city when I bought it and had ZERO complaints there. It rides and handles like a dream - over bumps, curbs, ice, leaves, snow - the baby doesn't feel a thing - I've even jogged slowly with it and it is very cushioned - I don't think you can beat the ride of the Bugaboo.

There are two things about the bugaboo I dislike 1. it is very cumbersome to take it in and out of the car - it is not a quick thing and it takes up a lot of room and takes a few min. to put together. and 2. it doesn't have a tray. I saw a tray in a catalog (i think it is one step ahead) and i am going to order it to see if it can clip on.

That said - these two negatives do NOT outweigh the positives for me and i would buy it again. Oh I forgot my third negative - they don't have a double stroller so I don't know what i am going to do when number two comes along

I love mine. I walk a lot, but also in car often.

Its been everywhere.

It has perfect rain/wind cover.

bundle me fits on it.

The pram attachment in beginning is perfect.

The only time its a PITA is on the plane. I bungeed the 2 pieces together, they came apart and I can tell it was scraped up.

I would get the travel bag next time around.

i live in brooklyn and am getting the baby jogger city mini. as much as i loved the look of the bugaboo, it was out of our price range and i couldn't see myself being able to carry it up and down subway steps with a baby in it, etc. plus i heard the babies outgrow them fairly quickly (once they're toddlers)

the city mini is much lighter (only 17 lbs.) and folds one handed in one piece (good when you're getting on a bus, etc. the bugaboo has to be split in two with the pram) the ride seems very smooth and you can navigate it with one hand. also the canopy is huge (good for all kinds of weather - they say you don't even need a rain cover) and it accommodates infants to much taller children than the bugaboo does. it's also cheaper... you can also buy a car seat attachment if that's important to you.

i'm not trying to dissuade you from the bugaboo, but there are other options out there for us city folk (i didn't think there were when i first started looking!).

If you mainly walk then yes I would say the Bugaboo is probably your best bet. I have a Frog and I like it a lot...I don't love it though because even though I live in the city I don't walk a lot so when I take it in and out of the car the fold is annoying.

That said I do love the way it pushes...it glides like a dream. I don't think it's heavy at all...it's about 18-20lbs (depending on the model) which is pretty lightweight for a full featured stroller. All of the other full featured strollers (I'coo Targo, Quinny Buzz, Uppa Vista)are 22lbs and above.

The Baby Jogger Mini is a great stroller also..although I wouldn't put it in the same category as a Bugaboo. You don't have the reversible handle feature or the option to have baby facing you or out in the seat...one thing I do love about the Bugaboo.

Most people end up getting a lightweight stroller eventually (Maclaren, etc) for travel but if you are going to mainly walk I would definitely get the Bug. I have a Frog but the Cameleon has a bigger seat which will grow better with baby and also a bigger underseat basket.. It holds alot it's deceptive when you look it at though.

Your best bet is to test it out in the store...pick it up, push it..ask lots of question.

I bought mine second hand off CL and got an awesome deal. They also do have great resale values if you buy new. 2 year warranty also and Bugaboo Customer Service is awesome. Good Luck!

If you are in the city, and you walk everywhere the Bugaboo is your best bet, it handles brilliantly and its just a wonderful, beautifully made piece of baby gear. Bugaboo themselves are a dream to deal with, they will send you replacements no questions asked (especially Bugaboo in Europe) You can use a Maxi Cosi Cabrio Car seat on the chassis like the universal type thing. My only complaint about the Bugaboo is that the seat is small (lengthways) and I think its too small for Toddlers. Also, my son likes the independance of getting in and out of his Maclaren, and kids can't get in and out of the Bugaboo on their own.

That being said, I am going to use my Bug again for this baby...in my opinion, its the best pushchair available, but it has some flaws.
