Do most doctors perform growth Sono's?
At what week is this done, and what exactly is it? My doctor didn't say anything about this, but I hear a lot of girls talk about it. I would love to know what size the baby is.

My doctor said to have it done between 28-32 weeks. My own doctor doesn't perform it...they sent me to the same place I've had all my other sonos. They did a lot of measurements again of the heart, brain and a few other organs....and I asked them to confirm the sex again!
I went at 29 weeks... baby was 3.5 lbs =) I forgot to ask how long she was oh well... by my belly...she's long! =)

Well, I'm past that point. I just went to the doctor the other day, and they didn't mention anything. My doctors office performs all the sono's. I guess some doctors do them and others don't.

I think it depends on your situation! My belly was measuring small so they had one when I was 31 weeks and all was good. He said theres a possibilty I'll have another but its not def.
A lot of insurance companies do not cover them so the dr's need a medical reason to perform them.

My OB only does them if there is a reason to (complications, possible large baby or very small baby) otherwise no growth sono. DD was a large baby so the OB said they might want to do one on me again this time since they expect this one to be bigger.

My doc doesn't normally do it-- I only had one because throughout my entire pregnancy I was complaining/concerned that my belly was so small and I was concerned for the size of the baby, even though my uterus was measuring normal. Finally he just said, ok-- we can do a sonogram.
In fact I just got a letter from my insurance company saying they won't cover it, but I need to work with my doc to appeal it.

My Dr. only does sonos at 12 and 20 weeks. I've actually had 4 growth sono's already and have another 3 coming up! But these have been out of medical necessity.

My OB is doing one when I go back in 2 weeks- I am assuming based on my DH's birth wght at almost 15lbs  and his father was almost 12- we figure this boy is gonna be big lol--  I on the other hand was a mere 7lbs 13oz so maybe I have a chance!

Mine doesn't do them. I am not sure the reason for them. Keep meaning to ask why he doesn't do them. Thanks for reminding me.
My DH was a big baby too...not quite 15, but big enough (10lbs)!

Your doctor probably only does them out of medical necessity. Mine was the same way. I had one at 35 weeks b/c DS was measuring small.
