flying while preggers
I have a friend who is TTC. She has an upcoming trip planned for March and is concerned that if she gets preggers, it might be dangerous to fly that early in.
I've never had kids, so I don't know.
Anyone know anything about flying and being pregnant?

Many people have flown pregnant.
The only concern with flying the first trimester is morning sickness can be worse. Staying hydrated can help that somewhat.

She'd be fine to fly, but I felt pretty sick the first tri and wouldn't necessarily have enjoyed myself on any vacation during that time.

She will be fine to fly.
Dr.s don't like for you to fly in case for some reason you go through a miscarriage early on or if you go into early labor when you're towards the end.

The only reason doctors suggest you not fly early on is in case of miscarriage. Flying doesn't increase your chances of miscarriage but in case you do, you would want to be in the comforts of home.
I flew multiple times in my first trimester. They were all trips I had booked prior to getting pregnant.
I was absolutely miserable from nausea. I had terrible morning sickness.
Morning sickness + motion sickness = MISERY.

It's fine to fly when you're pregnant as long as it's not close to your DD. She doesn't know when she's going to get pregnant either or even if she'll get ms. I never had ms my entire first tri.
Also, we're going to Aruba in a couple of weeks and booked the trip a year ago. We first thought I may be pregnant or ready to pop around the trip. Worst case is we'd have to cancel it, but it worked out. I'll be about 25 weeks when we leave. So glad I didn't let TTC stop me. Looking forward to going away and it'll be my last vacation for a while.

ITA! I wouldn't let TTC stop anyone from planning a trip. You never know how long it will take to get pregnant.
I have friends who have had no or very little morning sickness. They've traveled throughout their first and second trimesters with no problems.

I agree as well. It could take her longer than she expects, no sense in postponing a trip if it turns out she doesn't get pg when she thinks she will, then she could have gone the whole time.
She can fly 1st tri, it's totally safe, just like the other posters said, IF she suffers from m/s, it might be ugly, but not unsafe.

I have flown both pregnancies in my 1st trimester. With DD I went on a cruise at 9/10 weeks so I flew to San Juan (my OB was perfectly comfortable letting me go). This time around I checked with my OB before TTCing since I had a trip planned and I found out while on the trip that I was pregnant.
The only thing your friend needs to know - is to drink a lot of extra fluids and to try to get up and walk a little bit during the flight. Those were the instructions of both my OBs. Also tell her to have things like motion bands or ginger candies b.c it can make your Morning sickness worse. I never get motion sickness and got a really bad case of it on both trips.

I'm flying next week and I'll be 25 weeks. My doctor had no problem w/ it at all. I think it's always smart to check w/ your doctor though.
