Good Samaritan Moms or Moms-to-Be...

We are required to take a mandatory C-Section class...what happens if you don't (just curious)?

They seem to offer a lot of classes - any opinions on them. We were thinking about lamaze & the breastfeeding class...thanks!

I think DH would have had to take a class if he wanted to be in the room during a C-section (he never took it b/c his Dad is a Dr. at the hospital so we knew he could be in the room regardless)

I took a breastfeeding class that I found out about thru the hosipital but it was offered at another location. I probably didn't *need* the class b/c I had done so much reading on my own about it, but it was still good to take to reinforce some things.

I skipped lamaze alltogether, it just wasn't necessary IMO especially if you plan on getting an epi.

I hope it isn't mandatory! We barely have time to take lamaze bc of DH's work schedule!

My doctor told me that I had to take a mandatory C-section class at Good Sam...it is free of charge. The number is 631-376-4159

We took the c-section class right after the hospital tour. Originally, I had called to schedule a tour and the woman on the phone explained that we would need to stay for the c-section class in case I ended up having one. This way my DH would be allowed to stay in the room. My doctor had never even mentioned it.

When I told a good friend of mine who is a delivery nurse she even thought it was strange. The class wasn't even informative at all. We ended up getting a certificate with our names on it and the woman who presented told us to bring it in our hospital bag.

By the way, the class involved watching a video about women talking about having a c-section.

My doctor told me it was mandatory too if DH was going to be in the room... At least it's only 2 hours and offered at 8pm pretty often...

I delivered DS at Good Sam and we didn't take a c-section class even though we were told it was a must!

I was told by admissions that DH would need to take the class if he wanted to be present if a c-section was needed. We took it just in case and I found it informative, boring but interesting all in one. I was later told by nurses that if it came down to it and DH didnt take the class most likely he would still be allowed in, depending on the nurse.
We also took lamaze and honestly, I am glad I did. It took away a lot of my hospital fears. Would I do it again, NO. But I would recommend it to a preggo.
BTW, I delivered both of my DC at Good Sam and both births were great. I had wonderful nurses and no compliants at all.

we weren't going to take the class bc I really didnt think I was going to have a c section. We took it just in case and were lucky bc I did need one. Right before they took me in the surgery room my Dr asked DH if he took the class and DH said yes. I am not sure what would have happened if we didnt take it - I didnt want to take that chance

I delivered my DS at GS in May 2007. I took the c/s section class because it was manditory. They give you a certificate that you're supposed to put in your hospital bag. If you have a c/s, you're supposed to give it to them so that DH can be in the room.

I ended up with a c/s that was considered an emergency. I went to my 40 wk Dr appt and ended up in the hospital having the baby. (I was never in labor. The Dr was concerned with the result of my non-stress test.) Needless to say, no one ever asked if we took the class or for the certificate and DH was in the room.

Not sure if things have changed though. Definitely talk to your Dr about it just in case.
