Has anyone received Social Security Disabilty Insurance?
Trying to figure out if I am eligible for this, etc.

Well, I am self-employed-- which is how I stumbled upon it-- and it says you can be eligible as long as you have paid a sufficient amount of your SS tax. I also don't live in NYS.
If there is SOMETHING I can get, I don't want to not take advantage.
I found a # to call, so I will just call tomorrow.

Yeah, I think you have to be disabled for a year. Which you aren't with rpegnancy.
My BFF is in Jersey (you are too, right?) and NJ is better than NY

yeah I am in NJ... I found some info-- It did state something about the one year-- but i thought maybe it was an and/or thing.
It is really annoying that you pay all these stinkin' taxes and if you are self-employed you can't get anything.
I am still going to call and see if perhaps the person I speak to has any advice-- doubt it though.

I am a Social Security Disability attorney. People are not eligible to receive this benefit based solely upon pregnancy.

Re: Has anyone received Social Security Disabilty Insurance?
hey just wanted to share, in NYS you can start the process after 6 months of disability..i reached this in november from my car accident..and just so you know, with a broken collar bone, and two torn knees, that ALL need surgery AFTER im done breastfeeding, because since i was pregnant and couldnt treat properly, nothing healed right, i will most likely be denied the first time or two round applying for it..im starting the procedure this week..im not looking fwd to it.. dont know how it is in jersey, but good luck!! they make it hard!!

You don't have to wait until you are out 6 months. You can apply any time but there will be no SSD benefits paid for the first five full calendar months. (There is a possibility for some people to qualify for SSI during the waiting period). You have to have a disability that has lasted for a year, or is expected to last for a year, or is expected to result in death. The SSA website has a lot of information now. In my opinion, the website is more reliable than the 800#. These rules apply in every state. I have handled NJ cases and I am sure that the other SSD lawyer who responded probably has also. HTH.
