I thought I asked this yesterday but I guess not...

If you have OHSS in an IVF cycle, can/will they still do the transfer?

Thanks. Your post is what made me think about it. I thought they would only do an FET after your ovaries were back to normal. Definately let me know!

When I was going through IVF the Dr's told me if my OHSS (which was very mild) didn't improve by transfer day the they would have to freese my embies and wait for the next month. My ovaries did improve and I was able to have the transfer.

Re: I thought I asked this yesterday but I guess not...

I think I answered this in another post but here goes...
Most RE's will transfer even with OHSS.
The problem is that if you do get PG, the symptoms of the OHSS can get extremely severe. You can end up in the hospital and need to have your abdomen drained (I did with my first cycle). This is extremely risky and can be life threatening. Also, it puts the pregnancy at a high risk of m/c.
What a lot of RE's will do is either wait a few days (OHSS usually sets in around 3-5 days after trigger) and see how the patient is or only transfer one as opposed to two embies.
Now, if the OHSS is very severe or if prior history with the patient shows that they aren't getting PG with the fresh transfer, then most RE's will hold off on transfer altogether. It's safer for the patient and the embies.
As far as frozen transfers, the ovaries do not have to be back to normal but estrogen levels do.
For example - this past cycle, I went in for blood and sono two days after retrieval. My estrogen was at 2800 and my ovaries were overlapping and full of swollen follicles or cysts. I had gained 4 pounds at that point. I gained another 4 pounds in the next few days.
Transfer was cancelled.
After I got AF, I went in for blood and sono on CD2 and my estrogen was normal. My ovaries were still "kissing" and there were many very large cysts in each ovary but I was given the go ahead for a FET. My ovaries will go back to normal within the next couple months but there is no danger of the OHSS coming back since my estrogen levels are normal.
