Do-it-yourself haircolor help!!!
I just can't afford the $150 it's going to cost me to have my hair highlighted anymore. I just had it cut real short but I still have some old oxidized highlights I need to cover. I really want to let my natural color all grow back in.
What is the best brand to use (I have dark hair)? I thought I heard Feria was good? But if I use a permanent color won't it affect my natural color that is growing in (KWIM?). Should I use a temporary dye and just do it every couple of weeks?

I use Feria and I love it. The permanent color will not affect what is growing in unless you color the new growth. Is that what you are worried about?
The only problem I'm having, and I think this will be true of any color you use, my highlights are still coming through after a week or so. It's not too noticable and actually looks nice.
If you've never used a do it yoruself color before, I might suggest a semi permanent so in case you hate it, it will eventually wash out.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I'm trying to eventually get away from coloring my hair -- I don't want to affect what is coming in.

When my mom couldn't go to the colorist for some reason..her colorist told her to use Loreale Creme color..we did it a few times and it came out great.

i would buy the color that you think is closest to your natural haircolor. when your roots come in, you shouldn't even notice them. permanent only means that it won't wash off the hair you have now - it won't color the hair that grows in later.
i love feria, but only the darker shades - i find that for me, the lighter shades have too much red in them.

If your end goal is not to dye it anymore, I would use a temporary color until that part of your hair is long enough to grow out.
