1st sonogram
does anyone know how many weeks the first sonogram is done at? TIA

It depends on the dr. sometimes between 6-8 weeks.

Mine does a sonogram every visit, but i think 6 - 8 weeks is normal. Maybe 9. Really depends on the dr. b/c they all have different viewpoints on ultrasounds.

we actually had ours at 5 wks...i guess every dr is different but I have had a M/C in the past so we were super anxious

My first sono was at 5 weeks. I wish they hadn't done it that early though because they didn't see anything and caused me a lot of unnecessary concern. I went back a week later and they were able to see my peanut then. I know a lot of OB's will wait till 8 weeks for the first sono for this exact reason, not to cause unnecessary worry. It really depends on your doctor.

Mine scheduled the first for my 2nd appt, which will be 11 weeks. Her theory is that early sonos cause unnecessary worry when there is nothing to be seen.

Most doctors won't do one before 8 weeks b/c they may not see a heartbeat before then.

i am having my first sono on wednesday. i wil be 5 weeks 5 days. the nurse told me i will most likely only be seeing a sac and no heartbeat bc its way to early. So she prepared me for that. Im happy she said that to me bc i would have been a basket case if i went in there and saw no heartbeat.

My first one was done at 8w6d, my doc likes her patients to be at least 8w.
