Registry Help

After our level II in a few weeks, I will register!! Chat Icon We are on team Chat Icon !

I am feeling SO overwhelmed by the whole process - just thinking about it gives me anxiety! Any tips/suggestions for STARTING a registry? Where do I even begin?

Re: Registry Help

yay! im on team Chat Icon too!

well, registering huh?? yes it is a very daunting task!!

my #1 advice:
split up the registering into 2-3 trips. there is no way this can all be done in one day.
and before you go, get an idea of what products you are interested in. ask questions on the pregnancy and parenting boards. try to get a little feedback and find out what stroller they have- what car seat etc etc and why they love or hate it... if you do a little research before you go to the store, it will save a lot of time and heart ache.

when you first get to babies r us, register for all the big ticket items the infant seat, the car seat, the stroller, the play pen... the big items first.
- surprisingly, that can take up half the day! when you get home, you will be able to look at your registry items and see the feedback from other parents directly under the product! this was great for me! obviously everyone will find something positive or negative to say but if you see that a certain item has a lot more negative than positive- change the item...

on the next trip, i would do all the little things like the bottles, the onesies, the burp clothes wash clothes, the little toys and any other little peripherals.

i must say that upon our first trip to bru, we were like a deer in the head lights.. "where do we start?" "what should we look at?" - i right away said " lets look at all the big ticket items first" and i am so glad we did this.
finding out what bottles you want and what safety items to buy will have you staring at the items for hours... so better off saving that for the 2nd trip.

also highly recommend buying the baby bargains book. i wish i knew about this book prior to registering. i bought it sometime after but ended up using it as a cross reference. that book is a life saver!!! it goes through everything - soup to nuts regarding everything you would need or want to register/buy for the baby!

ok sorry for the novel.. i just know how you are feeling! i've been there!!!
good luck!!! fm me anytime!

Thank you SO much, Lisa. That was VERY helpful! I'm actually sitting here reading the Baby Bargain book as we speak!! Chat Icon I will definitely take your advice and do my research, and register for the bigger items first. THANKS!

Re: Registry Help

we didnt finish in one day. We took 2 trips.

I went on the BRU website first and went through every category. I think the most popular items come up first in each category. I read reviews on the items to get an idea of what other moms thought, then narrowed down my search. That helped ALOT. this way when I got to BRU I had an idea of what had crappy reviews and good reviews, etc.

I was team Chat Icon also! Chat Icon

The baby bargains book was a LIFESAVER!! I went through and highlighted all the gear that a B+ or higher and then went from there. i also broke it up into 3 trips (twice at BuyBuyBaby and once at BRU).

Don't stress- its soooo much FUN!!!

Good Luck!

Re: Registry Help

For me what helped was looking at some of my friend's registry. It gave me lots of good ideas where to start. I also looked at the check list they gave me to help. The rest I just went nuts and put everything I liked...lol

Re: Registry Help

we still havent finished and we have gone i think 4x already.

My biggest piece of advice is to talk to friends who have babies already and ask them what they like and dont like.

Also- get the baby bargains book, it offers great insight, although i do not follow its reccomendations to a 't'

also- search through your friends registries, see what they have chosen and go from there.

Good luck!

Re: Registry Help

Spoke with friends w/ children about what is good vs. what is not and I registered for those basics.

Then I just made a trip to BRU and BBB (different days!!) and hit everything else I liked w/ the gun!

My mom is getting me my crib and my IL's got us our travel system so I didn't need to register for those items.

My SIL is getting us our highchair so I don't need to register for that either.

Re: Registry Help

A lot of people use the Baby Bargains Book to help them. DH and I went once and I wrote down the major things that I liked and went home and serached online for safety ratings. We then went back and added other things that we wanted. It did take a while, but it was rather fun. I then went online and changed a few things after that. I update from home, I havent been back to the store to change anything on the registry. You will get it done. Bring a bottle of water and a snack and walk in and out of each aisle. Its not so bad! :)

Re: Registry Help

I was going to recommend reading the Baby Bargains book!! That helped us to focus!! Definitely do the big items first.....try and research online first for the pattern/ color you want-that will help once you are actually in the store! You will probably revise your registry soooo many times-but it's fun! Don't stress too much! Enjoy! Chat Icon

Hey,
I felt the same way completely! Definitely do it in more than one trip. They were very helpful at BRU in suggesting where to start and tell you where things were. I went with DH first, and then went back with my mom. I also had a few moms make me lists of things to get, not get, etc...

you'll be fine! Chat Icon
