Update on Delilah...

So I decided to put a collar on Delilah today and give her some time outside. It is eating me up inside that she's stuck in the space of two rooms all day every day.

Even though I swore I would NEVER have another outdoor cat, I felt it was better than leaving her in the room all day.

So, I brought her to the front door, opened it and she went out...sat there for about 10 seconds, turned around, and came back in! Chat Icon This is a cat that LIVED outside for her whole life! I was amazed!

I will admit that I'm thankful she wasn't comfortable with it anymore...but it just means that we don't have the option of keeping her as an outdoor cat, and we don't have the option of keeping her as an indoor cat...

I wish we could find someone who would take her. She's such a mush, but needs to be an only animal. I'm losing hope. Chat Icon

Re: Update on Delilah...

My friend has a kitten and she recently introduced another kitten in to the house. All they did was fight and hiss at each other. She was almost in tears. She keep them seperate while they were out and then slowly introduced them when they were home. NOW they are best friends. The sleep, clean and play together all day. Just don't leave them alone but let them slowly start to be together.

The problem is, we've already done this. We had them start slow--we kept Delilah on a leash and harness so that she couldn't make any sudden movements. Things went really well.

The biggest problem we're dealing with is the fact that she WAS an outdoor cat, and she's about a year old now. She has learned that other animals are a threat, and I'm not sure that's the type of thing that she's going to "unlearn" with any success.

I don't know if you've read some of my other posts, but the latest escapade we had involved Delilah attacking my mom's 9 year-old cat. It was completely unprovoked...my mom's cat was sleeping and she went after her. When the smoke had cleared, she had literally taken chunks of fur out of my mom's cat, and my mom's cat had peed all over the floor. Chat Icon

I'm going to run all this past my vet when we go this week, but the situation is looking VERY hopeless. Every time she comes, my other two cats are completely on edge, and they shouldn't have to feel that way in their own house. Chat Icon
