My dog stinks!
We've been giving Murray a bath once a week and buy the middle of the week, he stinks so badly!
We were just at the vet 3 weeks ago, so I don't think its his anal glands.
Any tips on something to use or special shampoo to help him smell better for a little longer? He's got short hair. We're going to take him to Petsmart tommorow for a bath and see if that helps, but I cant afford to take him there all that often.

I was going to ask the same thing about the anal glands. My chihuahua stinks when its time to get hers done, and I seem to have to take her more often now. That could be a definate cause of the stink! Good luck!

Re: My dog stinks!
He's only a puppy- 15 weeks and 10 pounds and we're not sure what breed- a mutt. Possible lab/ pit butt mix. He's not overweight at all.
We go back to the vet on Thursday, so I can ask about his anal glands then.
I don't think its hi anal glands though, it seems to be in his fur. I pick him up and when I hold him it smells between his shoulder blades. And his fur feels almost greasy.

Re: My dog stinks!
we bathe ollie every 7-10 days. To freshen her up in between baths we spray her with a deodorant/conditioner and then brush it through her. She gets a little stinky too but nothing more than regular puppy smell. Have you checked her skin where the odor is coming from?

Re: My dog stinks!
I was told not to wash my dog every week, since it dries out their coat. There must be something wrong, especially since it is just a puppy. My dog gets groomed every 6 Weeks and she smells fine the whole time. I would defienetly see a vet.

Interesting!
To reiterate what I said... Too-frequent baths for Labradors tend to dry out their skin (I read, heard) and if you wash with something that has a fragrance, your dog might be rolling in whatever smelly thing he can find to get the shampoo fragrance off?
Also J&J is not good for dogs with sensitive skin, I heard. My vet advised we use an oatmeal-based shampoo and only bathe him once a month if it's absolutely necessary.
I know someone who uses gentle baby wipes with Aloe to clean her dog's coat in between washings. We have a spray but we haven't had to use it yet.
