Question about Ultrascreen

I just scheduled my 12 week ultrascreen. I know they do a blood test and measure the baby's neck to test for down syndrome.

Do they tell you right there if the neck is normal and that your baby is not high risk for down syndrome?

Re: Question about Ultrascreen

they can tell you that everything "looks" normal but they won't be able to give you any results until the've reviewed your blood work too.

Re: Question about Ultrascreen

They won't give you a definitive answer until they get the blood results.

exactly. my doc said everything was in normal range during the sono but wouldn't speak further to that until the blood results were in

You can ask what the measurement is...

Re: Question about Ultrascreen

If it's a tech doing the sono, technically they shouldn't tell you a thing. But if it's your dr, they may tell you it's normal or not.

Re: Question about Ultrascreen

We got all our results the same day. After the tech at the sono place took all the measurements, the doctor came in with the results.

had you had your blood work completed before? I think this is how all docs should do it!

Re: Question about Ultrascreen

I had the bloodwork done at 1.5-2 weeks before the sono so the doctor gave me my results right after the sono.

Yup, at my 10week OB appointment, my Doc gave me a kit to take home. I had to prick my finger, put the sample on a card and send it to some lab in NY. They then sent the results to the place I had my ultrascreen done. The lab needed my sample 9 days prior to my appointment. After the sono, the tech went and got the doctor and the results from the lab and the dr went over everything with us, then sent all the results to my OB.

Re: Question about Ultrascreen

It's the combination of the fluid behind the neck and the blood work...you should have results in a few days! Good Luck!
