question about progesterone

When did you get tested for progesterone levels?

when I was first trying to get pregnant (with another dr. than now), he told me that I had low progesterone. This was a long time ago.

Yesterday, when I went to my dr. to confirm my pregnancy, they took blood, but didn't check for progesterone. I asked if I could please have that checked, and the nurse said NO....that there is no reason to right now, and I will come back at 8 weeks for a sono and full exam.

This really upsets me....am I being rediculous? Did anyone on this board get tested so early for progesterone?

Thanks

Re: question about progesterone

I got my levels tested while I was ttc, but my doctor was monitoring my ovulation and I was put on support for a few months. If you are very nervous call your dr and tell him maybe he will order the test for youChat Icon

Re: question about progesterone

sorry to hijack...but i would def insist on getting your progesterone tested, esp if it was low prior to this. I would speak to a doctor about your concerns, its not the nurses call
ETA: i had a CD 21 progesterone test right before i got a BFP with my DS. It was on the low average side, so the doctor wasn't too concerned, when i was 6 weeks pregnant, i was spotting and cramping, she re-did my progesterone and it was so low, like a 9 (i think when your pregnant it should be over 20 at that point). She put me on supplements right away. Its better to be safe then sorry
Good Luck!

ITA! I am monitored closely by my RE for progesterone levels (and am on suppositories 4x/day). If you've had issues in the past, you should definitely demand to be tested!

Re: question about progesterone

Well, I had a theory that my progesterone was low-- so, when I first when to the RE (which was 1DPO), she put me on supplements as a precautionary tactic. And that is the month that my pregnancy stuck-- I had two previous chemicals.

After I got my BFP at home, and I went in for blood testing-- I had to specifically ask to test progesterone because it was not part of the standard blood testing-- even though it was at the RE.

I agree with the others-- I would call tomorrow and say you want to go in tomorrow and get tested especially based on your history.

Re: question about progesterone

Well my situation may be a little different because I started out with an RE so they drew blood every few days and ALWAYS checked my progesterone. My progesterone was fairly low (about 12) so at just under 6 weeks I was put on progesterone supplements through week 12. I am now 34 weeks and the baby is great so if you suspect there is a problem I would stay on top of them about checking your levels. The only reason why I could see them not checking would be if they didn't feel your levels were low enough on the first go around. Mine always were so they wanted to keep checking. Good luck! Re: question about progesterone

they can check it as early as 4-5 weeks and I think that they should b/c if you are low they can use intervention with suppositories or if you are like me you can get the wonderful injections as well
