NPR: Expired tomatoes
I made ziti and after the fact I realized I used a can of Redpack whole peeled tomatoes in puree that said Best By Feb 28 2008.
Think we'll be OK?

Re: NPR: Expired tomatoes
With canned food, it's much more to do with the state of the can before opening. if it's bulging or gas is trapped in it, pitch your food and don't let anyone eat it.
if the can looked like a normal can, it's still fine. If it expired in 2006, I'd question it, but a several months are nothing

Re: NPR: Expired tomatoes
I think if it was bad you could be able to tell by the can, like the lid would be pushed out or something. You cooked it also. I think you'd probably be fine.

Re: NPR: Expired tomatoes
It said BEST BY... which means it lasts longer than that. You would have been able to tell if it was bad (color, smell etc)

Re: NPR: Expired tomatoes
It isn't expired, it is best by. That means the color might be off. If it smelled right and the can wasn't damaged in any way, you will be fine. Years ago, cans were not dated!
