For me they do. I had my first one tonight. Not the most comfortable, but not to worst.

I had a slight "swabbing" at my 36 week appointment and a full-on internal , Ill get next Monday at my 37 week when my doc will start to check for dilation.

I don't know because I delivered Hayley at 35 weeks. I know I am getting one soon (I am 34 weeks now)
