Can I request a Sono?

I have my AFP bloodwork on Friday and have NOT had a sono since 7 weeks. Can I ask for one? I want to take a "pic" home to NY for my gram. Will the dr think Im nuts? I mean I know I am but still.

when my sil asked for a sono her doc asked her "do you have cramping?".. hinting that if the answer is yes, then they can do the sono b/c insurance would cover then.

Well then I just may have cramping. I just think its weird to only have had ONE this whole time. Maybe its me.

You can ask, doesn't mean you'll get one. I think it really depends on your doctor.

It's not at all unusual to not have another sono until 20 weeks. I take it you didn't have an ultrascreen at 12 weeks? You would have had one then. I only had one at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and then not again until the Level II at 20 weeks. You can definitely ask for one, but like other people said, it totally depends on the Dr.

You can ask but you must be prepared for the Dr to say no. Even if you say you have cramping! I had lots of cramping early in my pregnancy...my dr said it was my round ligaments...

I was only supposed to have 2 sonos my whole pregnancy. One at 9 weeks, 20 weeks, 36 weeks. But I had a big baby so I had one at 38 and 39 weeks as well.

I remember asking my Dr around 11 weeks "so we just assume everything is okay" her response was "sure, why shouldnt we?"

Some drs dont do sonos unless really necessary. And some insurances only cover a limited amount.

My doc gives them very easily. He even told me at my 12 week visit that if 4 weeks was too long for me to go without hearing a heartbeat to call him and he'd bring me in for peace of mind. But, when I called at 14 weeks I had a little more trouble with the people who actually schedule the appointment. I told them that I was particularly nervous because my dog had stepped on my stomach that weekend...it was true, but he isn't a big dog (he's a pug) and it wasn't a hard step. I left that part out of the story and they brought me in :)

My Dr gives them very easily since they have the machine in every room and it takes 2 seconds to do.

I would just say you are not feeling right and they will do one. Or just straight out ask

Many insurances only cover 3 sonograms the entire pregnancy for a "normal" pregnancy. If you are high risk, that can be increased.

It certainly doesn't hurt to ask...I know I couldn't wait.

I've had 5 so far and am only 22 weeks. My first 2 were from the RE though...
