Alright, who can offer a newbie some advice?
So now that I got the official confirmation from my doctor that I am pregnant, let the worrying begin!!
What are some things I should know as someone who is newly pregnant? Dos/Don'ts?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Can't wait to get to know you girls!!

Do:
-Go with your gut on things related to your pregnancy. -Ask your DOCTOR for medical information -Understand that each and every pregnancy is different
Don't:
-Rely on the internet for anything medical information

The most important thing I've learned: You WILL get constipated. I was never constipated before in my LIFE--but I also found something much better than fiber supplements:
DRIED APRICOTS! I eat about 1/4 cup per day, and I'm back to being like clockwork again

Re: Alright, who can offer a newbie some advice?
ask questions on LIF, and a lot of them if you have to! Some things that might freak you out may be totally normal to another mom. And vice versa. Maybe you can offer advice to others really soon too! I rely on the vast number of women on this site to give me very broad opinions and their point of view. If it overly bothers me, I will still make sure to call my doc

Re: Alright, who can offer a newbie some advice?
we are all huge worry warts around here.
I always googled a lot of my symptoms but also, dont be afraid to call your Dr's office to ask them any questions - thats what they get paid the big bucks for.
All I can really say is that you are going to go through a lot of diff aches/pains/feelings, so dont panic over everything little thing, but like I said above, dont be afraid to call the Dr!
congrats!

Re: Alright, who can offer a newbie some advice?
I will agree with Leslie. When it comes to medical stuff always check with your Dr. IMO you cannot call them too much
If you hear or read something that you are weary of or interested in, use that information to start a dialogue with your Dr.
Learn how to smile & nod. I swear complete strangers will come up to you & tell you how to raise your child. They will do it no matter what you do, so you are better off just smiling & nodding and doing what YOU think is best anyway
And...try to remember to enjoy it. Believe it or not, the stuff that is so important now (when & how stuff is happening) becomes a blur after the baby comes. It is an amazing journey. Enjoy!

Re: Alright, who can offer a newbie some advice?
You will do great, it is perfectly normal to worry, especially in the beginning. I will tell you that the worrying will continue, it's just different worries throughout the pregnancy. As the others have said, when in doubt, call the doctor. It's better to have them say "oh you're fine" to put your mind at ease then for you to worry and stress over something. And if it is something, they can help you out asap.
Best of luck and congratulations!!

Re: Alright, who can offer a newbie some advice?
ask a lot of questions on LIF, for me personally, it's saved a lot of phone calls to the doctor. anything serious of course call your doctor.
Avoid Eye contact with all strangers!!! LOL If you avoid eye contact and put on a beotchy face noone will bother you!!! this is my strategy and I never get any rude comments
Don't spend too much on maternity clothes, the time goes by so fast, it's not worth spending. use the money on baby's clothes or new clothes for you after the pregnancy

Don't be shocked or scared by cramping-I have had intesnse cramping throughout my pregnancy and no one really ever talks about it even my Dr's. But when I bring it up they say oh thats just your uterus stretching

You must be reading my mind! I am having cramping that feels like stretching BIG time today and it's very uncomfortable. I figured that's what it was, but it's reassuring to hear you say this!! Thanks, Melissa!

I had some pretty severe cramping very early on. It subsided around 7 weeks. I've had some mild cramping since then on and off.
