I'm really at the end of my rope with Lola

Lola WAS a perfect dog. Never had a problem with her, that is until about a month or 2 ago. It started with her gnawing at my molding between my kitchen and dining room. It progressed to her biting a hole in my couch cushin, chewing up my son's toys, jumping on a chair and getting a credit card off the table and chewing it to shreds and peeing in my kitchen after just being walked . Today was the last straw, after having my cushion fixed, she chewed the actual love seat. there is a 3 inch hole in the fabric.

The problem, she only does this when I'm home, and she does it quick, like in the time it takes me to waddle my 7 month pregant a$$ to the bathroom . When DH is home she is perfect again. I dont know if she is acting spiteful because I'm pregnant or what, but I truly dont know what to do with her anymore. Anyone have any advice they can offer?

Sounds like she is bored! What are you doing while she is doing this? Do you have a fenced in yard? If so maybe try throwing the ball around a bit so she tires out.
How old is Lola? I'm assuming she is an adult...

we have a similar situation going on with our dog, Cindee.

Cindee is 1 today and this problem started about a month ago.

we came home and found that she ate our lineoleum floor. she ate about a 3ft piece of it. She didnt ingest it, just scattered it all over the place.

we thought maybe she ddnt like the kitchen anymore, so we allowed her to roam around the first floor of the house.

we came home to find that she ate the covers of some of our books.

I have purchased bitter apple spray and a kong toy. I am hoping something works.

good luck to you!

I think it could be a mixture of things... maybe she's a little bored, maybe a little jealous.

If you don't have any now, I would get some kong toys and put peanut butter in one, she'll be way more interested in that vs. anything else in the house.

And if it's possible, maybe start walking her by yourself (if you're already not doing this) so you two are spending some "quality" time together.

With the baby on the way she could be starting to feel like she's not getting the attention she used to get.

I dont know about being bored, my 3 year old son is always playing with her. I do have a fenced yard but I'm aprenhensive about putting her out there as she is still small enough to slip under the gate (PVC fencing). Lola turned 1 on June 4th. She has so many toys and she is always playing with them, we take nice walks everyday so I dont know if its boredom or spite

She is very attached to my 3 year old and my DH, so its not like she isnt getting attention. When I sit on the couch she is right under my feet snoring away.

She's still a puppy right? She's not out of the puppy phase..and if she's chewing, she's definitely bored. Do you walk her?

The only thing I can think of with the attention thing is that even though she's getting it from your son and husband she still wants attention from you.

Also, she's still considered a puppy. I would make the investment in getting a kong. SHe's teething and so she's gonna go to town on anything she can.

I should know, my two went through 2 coffee tables and countless pieces of moulding!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: Hang in there she WILL grow out of this!!! Chat Icon

Ah she's only 1. Katie was not trusted until she was 1 1/2... there was some occasional molding chewing up until then. Really, the kong does wonders though.
