what do you do for back pain?
my back just started bothering me very recently, i am going for a massage tomorrow but can anyone recommend things i can do to alleviate the pain before and after the massage? TIA

I dont think theres anything you really can do besides not sitting or standing for too long of a period at a time.

I took tylenol and used a hot pack. It does help alleviate some of the pain.

I go to Bed Bath and Beyond and sit on the massage chairs. Doesn't cost a dime.

the heating pad helped some in the begining. Now the other thing that seems to help is laying on the couch on my left side with a pillow behind my back. It's going to be a long 4 months!

there are TOTALLY things that can be done. I think I've figured it out (I'm 30 weeks and haven't had back pain for at least 2 months!)
Pillows...... I don't own a snoogle or other maternity pillows. I have 5 down pillows. while I sleep (always on my side), one is wedged under Scone and is propping him up. this takes the weight off of my back, so while I sleep, my back actually recouperates from the day, rather than getting even more strained. It's important to get a pillow that isn't too puffy or flat.... it should have just the right amount of support (becuase your body also twists if your belly is propped up too high)

If it is a muscle, use heat. If its a nerve, use ice.

DO NOT take ANY pain medicine of any kind before getting a massage.
It will alter the way you feel. The therapist could go deeper than she/he should just because you don't feel as much as you normal do.
