I think I am giving up..

CIO is just not for us. We have tried for a almost a week now and the situation has just gotten worse. We have not let Grace cry with no end, we have gone to a half hour then consoled then let her cry again. My daughter is a mess as am I when I see her that way. She used to sleep much better before we tried to deal with the night waking. Now we can't even leave her room without her getting hysterical. Its like she lies down with one eye open. I feel like she is going to have a nervous breakdown! Now instead of her waking 3 times a night she's waking closer to 10. I don't know what to do. What happened to my baby who started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks. I am hoping this is just a phase she is going through, teething or something temporary. We are all exhausted. We have 9 month dr.'s appointment Wed. Hopefully, she'll have some words of wisdom she can share. Just needed to get this off my chest. I feel like a failure. I wish there was an easy solution.

Re: I think I am giving up..

there is no easy solution... BUT giving up on not CIO is not a terrible thing. I never let either of my kids CIO. They both sleep through the night now. It did take some sleep training but I used the No Cry Sleep Solution. I also co slept which for some people is a big no no but Emma is 100% in her own bed. Whatever works for you!!!!!!

What is the No Cry Sleep Solution? Co-sleeping would be so easy but my DH is against it. We take her in our bed after 5:00AM. Last night I ended up sleeping on her floor with her for a couple of hours so she would calm down.

I'm not sure if you're heard of this method that works for every single mom -- it's called "Whatever Works for YOU". You are not a failure. The CIO method is very hard to do. My son would throw up from crying. I just told my husband he was going to have to deal with it because I wasn't going to have him sobbing like that. By the age of 2, he would scream from his crib "I need ladder!". At 2-1/2, he was saying "Mommy, I'm crying. Do you hear me?" And finally when he was 3, he got a big boy bed. When we put Maddie in the crib was the only time he wanted to go in it.Chat Icon

Re: I think I am giving up..

the best advice I've heard "whatever works" and "don't get used to anythingfor too long because they change". I am sure you will find what works for you.

My friend's daughter was sleeping through the night from 1 months to 2 years. Now the new baby is here and she wants the whole family in bed with her to sleep. Lucky for them the new baby is sleeping through the night and does not hear her when she is screaming "mommy , daddy bed...one big happy family"

Re: I think I am giving up..

I usually cuddle with James on the couch or the floor when its time for him to go to bed...I never let him cry it out...and now when he is tired he just climbs on the couch and cuddles with me until he is asleep....its what works for us. I am not a CIO advicate...my parents didn't do it with me and my sister...and my my mother in law didn't let her kids CIO either....do what works best fo you and your baby...CIO is not for everyone

Re: I think I am giving up..

YOu are not a failure whatever works for you I will tell you marissa is almost 17 months and she is still going through phases she is in a toddler bed and there are times when she will be fine and I will put her in her bed and she will fall asleep there are times I have to lay in the guest bed with her and then there are the times she will wake in the nite and will go back to sleep after a few minutes of me coaxing her but then there are the times she wan't out of her bed abd I bring h er into mine and she konks right out so what ever works is my opinion.

Re: I think I am giving up..

I have never done CIO and that is just fine with me. You are NOT a failure for not wanting your baby to cry for hours and hours. You and your baby will figure this out...I promise.

Thank you all for your positive thoughts. I am so glad to see that I am not alone. I miss rocking my baby to sleep peacefully. She napping right now in her CRIB not her bouncy which is a step in the right direction and yes I happily rocked her to sleep.Chat Icon

Barb- Your son really cracks me up!

Re: I think I am giving up..

Molly and I still cuddle before bed in the rocking chair and sing songs. I am not really "rocking" her anymore but she is also not just put into her crib. It works for us.

Re: I think I am giving up..

No Cry Sleep Solution is a book with ideas on how to go to bed w/o CIO. I used some ideas with Emma and will use it again with Jeremy when I'm ready. Look it up on Amazon

I just got this book this weekend. I couldn't do CIO. I got too upset, and Sarah would work herself up so much that it took over an hour to calm her down. It was much to stressful for us. She was sleeping through the night for a few months, but she's started waking up once or twice a night again, so I was going to try to get some ideas from this book. I got it in Borders, it was about $15.
