Painting
Have any of you helped paint? Is it really bad? We need to get the room painted and if I don't do it/help I don't know when he will

Re: Painting
Ask your OB. I was only allowed to help for short times with the windows open and wearing a mask. Every Dr is different though.

Re: Painting
My doc said it is fine...I just asked her last week. She said to make sure the room is well ventilated and don't be in charge of painting the closet or other more enclosed space. And take it easy - lots of breaks.

Re: Painting
I did with my DD and she was fine- lots of breaks and windows wide open. Plus now they have the VOC free paints that have no fumes- Pay a little extra and get that kind and you will be fine.

Re: Painting
I do the painting by myself. I just wear a mask, and take breaks when I need to.

Re: Painting
lab rat here.... I have a lot of experience using solvents and other stinky things.
you can't wear a standard paper mask and protect yourself from anything. the solvent fumes actually concentrate under your mask, rather than being excluded. you can only wear a whole gasmask.... which likely none of you own or could buy....
Even if my Dr. said it was ok if it were in a well ventilated room, let's be honest... have you EVER been able to sufficiently ventilate a room so that it didn't get very stinky while painting (even with low oder latex) ?
I'd avoid it.... it's your DH's baby too... he likely wouldn't want your bean exposed to fumes, and will be willing to carry a heavier load than usual.....

Re: Painting
I painted here and there throughout my 29 weeks. I just opened all the windows, took frequent breaks, and then left the room as soon as I was done. I'm sure painting is fine as long as you're not spending 10 hours in a stuffy room painting everything. A little paining here or there probably won't harm the baby.

Re: Painting
My friend painted with Benjamin Moore Eco spec paint. It is toxin free. She was fine.

Re: Painting
Hubby said I'm not allowed because of fumes (there are still no windows in there, we are waiting for them to come in), and because I do a half-azzed job

Re: Painting
I painted. I did the trim and that meant i was up and down the chair a million times...
i had both windows open and a fan on
Seriously i didnt smell anything strong at all (used latex)
I am a busy body.. i can't sit still or give stuff over to the 'hubby' to do if i can do it myself or with his help.
That includes all sorts of stuff like changing a tire, moving boxes, painting etc.
Since preggers.. i dont lift heavy stuff other than my body. Still, i can paint, so I did. I wanted it done so I got him in there and got him working while I did trim work.
*shrug*
