whatdya think???
Ive pretty much picked out two nursery sets that i LOVE....
one for a boy..one for a girl..im waiting to leave a deposit obviously until i find out what im having in a few weeks...
My mother will probably be buying all if not MOST of the set..(the crib, dresser, and armoire)
she feels SHE has to like it in order to buy it..
eh
thats the first thing im not so thrilled over..but whatever..
so anyway, my girl furnirture she loves, its gorgeous and girly and everything else that goes along with it..
My boy pick, is beautiful but i want to buy it in "Antique Black"...which means, the furniture is black for the most part and the edges are rubbed so that the paint underneath (which is deep red) is showing through...
I absolutely LOVE it..she'll buy it, but shell complain about it everytime shes in my house..
lol...whatdya think???

Tell her that if she doesn't like it, then she doesn't have to buy it. But I would stick to it and not change the style...I would probably wind up buying it myself.

just a thought on antique black furniture...you have to dust it every day because it looks filthy if you dont'. i will never buy a piece of black furniture ever again!

i didnt even think of the dust factor..but i tend to feel this way about ALL of the wood in my house..
i feel like i just WANT dark furniture so bad because ive been looking at my DS's bleached oak for 9 years..and im needin a change..
i have no problem buyin it myself, ill probably have to do that.. but i just wanted to know if anyone thought it was like some superstiscious thing?

Not sure about a superstition with the black, but I know in several cultures it is considered prudent to surround a new baby with bits of red to ward of evil.

Many Jewish people will tie a red ribbon around a crib slat to ward off the "evil eye". I had one on my crib as did my siblings, nieces and nephews. I have also been wearing a red ribbon pinned to my bra throughout my pregnancy.
As far as your predicament goes, a gift is a gift. If she is buying you a gift, then you should choose it. My mother bought our furniture for us. It is pretty contemporary and we did not think she would like it. She may have, she may not have. She did however recognize that we (DH and I) were the ones who had to be happy with it.

couldn't agree more!! Hence why I just got rid of my cherry furniture. I couldn't take the dust
That being said, my mom is buying our set and will tell us what she thinks. It drives me nuts, but I do appreciate the gift. Luckily my taste is plainer so my mom what be unhappy with it (hopefully)

Same here!! Our bedroom furniture is black and its the biggest PITA ever!!!
