what is a travel system and what are the advantages?

travel systems! discuss!
what are they?

from what i can tell, it is a carriage that comes with an infant seat that straps into the carriage..

i can see how a travel system saves money b/c it comes with an infant seat, however, what are the other benefits?

is a travel system better than buying a stroller that has adjustable seating where the baby faces you?

I see the benifits of a travel system as this:

-its a infant car seat
-a stroller
-a baby carrier
etc

When we went to Babies R Us, I didn't find the travel system strollers any heavier than the non-travel system infant strollers (not including umbrella strollers or the 3 wheel thingys).

Also, keep in mind, you're only going to be using the baby carrier attachment for so long, then its the same as a regular stroller. For the price, for it being a car seat & stroller, it seems worth it to me.

You have to try them out....I found that the chicco travel system was no more bulky than putting the infant seat into the snap and go.

Depending on the system, they can be bulky, but the best thing to do is to go to the store and try them out.

I will be honest I didn't see the point with my DD. I just got the snap and go and it was great. Light-weight and easy to use and then I just got a jogger to use as my stroller and a cheapie umbrella stroller from the consignment store and I was all set. Chat Icon

I've been using a travel system with DS for about 3 months now and love it! What I like most is that I can let DS keep sleeping without waking him while traveling with him. I'll put him in his carrier while fast asleep at home. I can snap his carrier into the car base without disturbing him. When I get to the mall, I can then snap the carrier into the stroller without him making a peep Chat Icon

The only disadvantage I see is that you can't use the whole system for too long. The carseat part is only good up to 22 pounds...DS is already 15 pounds and it's only been 3 months! Like PP said, after that you can use it as a stroller and get a new carseat.

DH and I debated for a while between the Metrolite and Quattro. We went with the Metrolite because of its size...it is lighter and easier to maneuver in compact spaces (such as around NYC).

Travel systems are great and convenient, but most are very heavy. I have a bad back, so we registered for the travel system as well as the snap n go.

I can't say enough good things about travel systems. They are so handy-you can just snap the carseat into the car or stroller. That way, if baby falls asleep in the car, no need to wake him up when you get out. Just snap the carseat into the stroller. They are not bulky or heavy either.

ITA. I have the Graco Metrolite, definitely not a heavy stroller at all. I did think the Quattro was a bit heavy when I tested it in the store, it weighs a few lbs more than Metrolite.

I have a travel system bt I use the snap n go with the infant seat. I leave the carraige part at home for walks and stuff. It is bulky so I just plop the infant seat into the snap and go and your off!

Re: what is a travel system and what are the advantages?

I do not think they are heavy at all and not too bulky. I went to the store and tried them on for size. And actually the baby seat for the Metrolite and the Quattro are the same weight 8 pounds. And yeah the stroller is bigger with the Quattro but there is more room for things. I liked the Gracco Quattro the best and thats what i registered for.
