Jumping dogs
Any one have some good training tips for jumping dogs- the puppy just doesnt get that its not acceptable (she is so thick headed) and now that she is 65lbs at just 11 months, Im worried she is gonna hurt someone-
ETA: My other two dont jump on people-not sure why she doesnt just follow the other two's lead

Re: Jumping dogs
I would like to know too! Stella is 8 months now and about 40 pounds and she can not contain her excitement when we have company over and she jumps! She is a boxer and I know they are jumpy but I really want this to stop! I have tried pushing her butt on the floor when people come in and I tell them not to give her attention until she sits and waits for it but it doesn't work.

Re: Jumping dogs
I would tell people no Eye contact, touching or talking to the pup when they first come in your home... You should be telling her to sit as well and stay making her calm and submissive.. One thing I hate is a barking yapping jumping dog.. I worked soooooo hard on this and I have to say it payed off. Be consistant and patient.. I won't even open the door until she is sitting and calm. This works for me

Re: Jumping dogs
What about if they are thick headed and very strong, she is smart she just chooses to ignore us.

Re: Jumping dogs
Try telling the people he jumps on to turn there backs when the dog jumps then tell him to sit. I have a little dog and when she jumps on my niece (whos only 3) I tell her to do that and the dog immediatly gets down

We're running into this problem with Shelby. Arnold was never a jumper but Miss Shelby is another story! Here's what I've found to be effective.
Literally the second I walk through the door I immediately say "SIT!" and make Shelby sit down. She wants attention so by making her settle down and sit she sees that I'll pet her and let her lick me and "say hello".
Of course it's taking time but I'll tell ya, I saw a HUGE improvement this weekend.
We had a bar-b-q with 36 people in our house. Well one of them is my 3 yr old nephew who is TERRIFIED of dogs. Well naturally Shelby wants to play with him but he's not buying it and everytime she would go near him he would run away in terror. So eventually after an hour or so she caught on and would creep over to be near him. IMMEDIATELY she would SIT DOWN as soon as he would turn around and see her and eventually (with the help of his other cousins who are 5 and 7) he walked over and pet her.
It was like Shely finally got it. She realized if I sit I will be pet. Shelby's only 4 months old and she's catching on, but it's taken us since day one to get her to this point. Give it time, but I've found this strategy effective.
Oh and also, in the beginning I would give her treats for sitting like a good girl and letting us come down to her to get pet and for her to lick us.

Re: Jumping dogs
I usually tell people to just ignore the dog. The less attention he gets the less he is interested.

We do the same thing and was taught that by the trainer in obedience class. She told us or anyone just to turn away and ignore her and tell her to sit. It worked and we don't have a jumping issue anymore.

Re: Jumping dogs
For ours when we see her begin her jump we point and snap our fingers at her and say no or we turn away (whichever happens first) and she jumps but we doesnt jump on us or anyone else

We've tried this with Luna- and it usually works.

Re: Jumping dogs
OUr dog jumped on guets for a long time too. He did grow out of it after he turned a year...but we would give him our knee for a while and also turning our back to him worked.
Good Luck
