Close to your due date.. for about 2 weeks. and it really couldn't be avoided.. what would be some steps that you would take? and by away, I mean far enough that if you went into labor you couldn't get home to your home hospital...Do you tell your obgyn ahead of time? Try to find a doc in the area you will be in? Scope out and tour the hospital where you will be? Or just go and pray that the baby holds on till you get back home?

Re: If you had to go out of town...

yeah I"m anxious about being away from my doc and hospital too.. but this involves my other child (8yrs old) and her health/wellness.. which is the only-trust me-ONLY thing that would make me even consider leaving the area for 2 weeks.. (I should have made that clear in my original post)

Just trying to figure out what I should do.. thanks..

If anyone has had an experience that required them to deliver at an unscheduled hospital, please share your experience..

Aww I'm so sorry. Chat Icon How far away is it? Maybe you can talk to your doctor and see if he has any trusted colleagues in the area?

it's not too far. We live in PA now and my doc of course is here on LI.. I could come home once a week for the doc appts.. but I"m scared to go into labor there.. I will ask my doc... I think the only option I may have is to try to send my daughter with her stepdad and let him take care of her there for the 2weeks.. bring her home on weekends.. I dunno.. GRRRR.. hard choices.. thanks ladies..

Re: If you had to go out of town...

Tough decision!!!! I would speak with your doctor about their suggestion and also research the hospitals in the area as a pre-caution and get some recommendations.

It's funny because we were at LIJ the other day..........I am originally from Upstate NY (Orange County). My DH actually asked me to give birth up there because the amount of people, traffic, construction and time it took to "get" to where we needed to go was too overwhelming for him.........

I often tend to have my mind stray to these "what if" situations about if I am out of the area and something happens and I go really early or something........

I would ask my doctor and see what he recommends. If you are in an area with a good hospital, it shouldn't be dangerous. Make sure you take copies of all your medical records with you, this way in case you need to go to the hospital for anything, they won't have to waste time trying to get a copy of your records. Good luck!
