Cleaning question!

I just mopped with the swiffer mop (the kind where you put the pad on) and I was thinking how all the solution got on my fingers...I've been super paraniod about cleaning but I have been slacking lately as I get further along. What do you guys think about the mopping solution touching my hands and fingers? Do you think it's that bad? I haven't used any bleach since I found out I was pg...other than the clorox wipes here and there.

So what are you guys all doing about cleaning?

Re: Cleaning question!

Oh how I wish I could say that we were having someone come in and do it for me!

But seriously, with DD I did everything that I normally did (maybe not quite as frequently as I got bigger) except for cleaning the bathroom - I mean the scrub the tub and toilet stuff. I was too nervous about being in a small space with the fumes, so DH got stuck doing that.

I am sure it will be the same this time around.

Re: Cleaning question!

Since PG I've been trying to use rubber gloves whenever I clean...I've forgotten though at times and touched the swifer pads without having gloves on and just washed my hands as soon as I realized it. I try not to worry about it because we'll drive ourselves crazy.

Re: Cleaning question!

I'm very lucky, I have a cleaning lady. But for everyday things to clean around the house I usually wear gloves. That's just a precaution I have, some people might think that's paranoia but who knows the chemicals that are in these things? I also started using 7th generation products which are usually chemical free.

Re: Cleaning question!

I think a person would have to have heavy exposure or inhale anything to have it have a harmful effect on a growing fetus. I use Clorox wipes and Windex and I use bleach when I do laundry, but my exposure to the chemicals is minimal. DH does deep cleaning - mainly because I cannot bend anymoreChat Icon

Re: Cleaning question!

I didn't change anything about the way I clean my house. I use the Swiffer Wet Jet weekly, I use my Lysol 4-in-1 to clean the counters, Comet in the sink, Windex on the windows.............the house needs to be cleaned so what choice do I have. I'm not breathing in anything for long periods of time so I'm sure it's all fine. At 28w2d baby is doing great so I'm sure it was fine to keep cleaning!! Chat Icon

just wash your hands and I am sure it will be fine. My Dr had no problems with any cleaning products that I use as long as I used them with ventalation and washed my hands after I was done.

I am sure its fine

Re: Cleaning question!

I also use the swiffer things to clean my floor and often touch them. I just wash my hands right away. When my DS was born I stopped using as much scented stuff around the house I now use Seventh generation to clean my counter tops, tables, mirrors, etc.. The bathroom is difficult because many of the cleaners are smelly. If I just wipe down the tub I use the Seventh Generation. Sometimes when I scrub the tub I use Ajax instead of the foam soft scrub stuff because it has less of a smell. My DH also helps out with the bathroom.

Re: Cleaning question!

I've been cleaning with all the products I used to clean with, with the exception of bleach. I just always wear gloves and make sure the area is well ventilated.

If you get anything on you just wash your hands really well. I would avoid products with amonia and bleach.

I agree! I just try to ventilate more and wash my hands more often. But unfortunately I am still cleaning at 31 weeks. I did the shower walls yesterday!
