Just out of curiosity......
how much is the average day care on Long Island?
Hopefully DH and I will be able to use family/friends but we still will need a back up.
Plus I've spoken to friends who said once the baby is say, 2 and very active, it can become overwhelming for the grandparents to watch him/her.
One of my co-workers also told me that most places she's used she has to pay for a whole month up front, whether or not she uses all those days. Is that the norm? I am clueless on this stuff.
If I went with just a person to watch the baby in their home, what is the going rate? Thanks :)

A friend pays $1100. They must pay that if he goes or not. They also have to pay that over the summer (even though he is a teacher and can watch his son) because they will lose their spot if they don't. They don't use it for that many hours, she goes in late (10:00) and he is out early (2:15), but it doesn't matter, everybody pays the same at theirs and it doesn't matter what time you come in or leave. They will save 10% on their second child.

I've heard anywhere from 1200-2000, but maybe post on parenting for more accurate responses
