Pregnancy Paranoia
Lets discuss.
I have a case of it. First questioning every cramp and twinge, and then wondering why they're not there. With MCs being so common, it's hard not to worry. I never thought I'd actually wish for m/s!
Anyone else go through this, or experiencing this? I'm assuming after you hear a HB, things kind of settle in a bit?

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
Honestly, the paranoia changes with every stage - at least it did with me. First I thought "OK first trimester - done - home free." Nope. then I had the amnio in the second trimester. Still though all turned out fine with that, I am wanting so much to just get past 30 weeks. I don't know why THAT marker means something to me but it does. Having had 2 m/c's myself, they definitely changed me forever and had an impact the level to which I was able to enjoy the pregnancy.

I'm a card carrying member. It's hard because you hear so many stories. We all have our own personal experiences too. I keep saying to myself as long as you're not bleeding you're fine. I don't know how anyone did it in the days before sono. I hold my breath between each one!

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
OMG> I am beyond paranoid if that is even possible!!!!!!! I feel my boobs on an hourly basis to make sure they are still sore. And I have been having a lot more cramping with this PG than I ever had with my DS. I find that if I do too much it is the worse so I have slowed down a bit.
I was also wishing for m/s and this morning I have it. Yay!!!!

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
I am totally paranoid-- but, I am paranoid in general.
I think it's totally normal and I agree with Mel-- as long as I am not bleeding.
I am afraid to tell my parents about the pregnancy, and I am also afraid every time I go to the doc for a blood test, or whatever-- I keep expecting bad news. But, all I am getting is that everything is progressing well-- so, I have to take that.
It's a little too surreal for me at this point to have the paranoia be all encompassing though. Also, with my experience, I have never made it this far in a pregnancy so, I am doing well!

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
i was paranoid in the beginning... now, not so much. especially since i had my ultrascreen. i don't have any history of problems in my family, so i figured if something was going to "happen" it would have happened already. now that i feel move all the time, i worry even less.
come back and ask me the same question once he arrives

I feel the same way. With all that is out there, sometimes I feel that too much knowledge is a curse. Sometimes it prepares you, but sometimes it scares you half to death.

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
Going on 24 weeks and still paranoid! It is starting to subside a tiny bit because I can feel him move now, but God forbid he is sleeping and I dont fell him for a while... I think, like Goldie, I will feel better at the 30 week mark. (of course I say that at every milestone)

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
I have a severe case of it. I can't wait for the first trimester to be over (I'm 10.5 weeks now). I keep touching my boobs to make sure they still hurt. This morning I'm so nauseous again .

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
I've had nightmares about having miscarriages. It also doesn't help what I do for a living.........I worry about the million and one things that could go wrong with the baby after it's born to things that could go wrong with myself........I work with clients who have traumatic brain injury. One of them got it from having a stroke during her pregnancy to her second child who is now autistic with a ton of other issues. Her husband then left her because he couldn't handle it all. It's a scary world we live in.
I also worry about how stress from my job could impact on my pregnancy.............

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
I'm normally a very paranoid person in general, and I literally freak out over everything. I agree with the no bleeding, but I take it to the next level and think to myself what if its's a missed m/c it's awful...I'm freaking out until my next sono, thinking all the most awful things that can happen will happen. Thankfully DH who is anal as well, but about other things is here to ground me and snap me out of my worrying rut, which works for a few seconds!!!

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
ALL THE TIME!! We had a m/c at 20 weeks. Once we got past that point, I felt a little better about everything, but every twitch, pain, etc. always gets me more paranoid. We are 27 weeks and like the girls said...30 weeks sounds sooo good. Don't know if i'll ever stop worrying

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
I'm incredibly nervous too. I thought seeing the heartbeat would ease my mind a bit, but it didn't. I worry when I have cramps and worry when my symptoms subside. Sometimes I tell myself that it's a good sign that I haven't had any spotting, but other times I worry about a missed m/c. I still feel my boobs constantly to make sure they're sore. I don't know how people stay relaxed throughout pregnancy.

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
The first tri was the worst for me, I questioned everything, But I always called my doctor if something was wierd. They were great about answering any questions I had or having me come in for a sono to make sure everything was ok.
Now for me, ever since I have felt the baby move I get paraniod if a lot of time goes by and I havent felt anything.
I dont think the paranoia ever goes away and is prob completely normal for all of us.

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
I had/have a very bad case and for me it never went away. I had a m/c in Nov 2006 at 12 weeks and it was devestating and the whole first trimester I was waiting for something to happen. Everytime I felt any "wetness" I'd run to the BR to make sure it wasn't blood etc etc. I felt better in the 2nd tri and now much better since I have been feeling her move. But check in with me when I haven't felt her for over an hour, I am a basketcase
Just try to relax and remember, majority of the time if something is wrong, you'd know. But honestly, if I could do it all over I would've purchased a doctor grade doppler on e-bay. My SIL just got one and it brings her such peace of mind.
Good luck and try not to worry, everything will be fine.

Re: Pregnancy Paranoia
I'm not constantly paranoid, but I do have my moments....
in the first trimester I was very worried about miscarriage and trisomy... after the ultrascreen, that worry was over.
in the first half of the 2nd trimester, I was worried about the level II results (all organs ok?) I also maintain a fear of an incompetent cervix, becuase it's my first pregnancy, and my cervix has never been challenged before....
In the 2nd half of my 2nd trimester, I'm worried about gestational diabetes (1 hour will be next week ) and accidentally overexerting myself.
it never ends....
