Did you take your child to an allergist to check it out and make sure it is 100% the dog?

My friend has a cat that her husband is allergic to and she bathes it once a week with a certain shampoo.. This seems to do the trick.. He is fine. But once that week goes by he starts showing symptoms maybe you can try that for now. Its also allergy season big time. Was he tested??

Do you plan on testing your DD or are you looking to re-home? Would you keep the dog if you found out there was a solution? or in fact not allergic? How often to you bathe the dog? I know golden's they are out in the yard rolling in everything!! The dog may be bringing allergens from the grass into the house. Does the cat go out? If not this may very well be the issue.

Good point!

Also, if she is not allergic to your Cat then it is highly unlikely that she is allergic to the Dog. I think Dilb712 is probably correct in saying that the dog is bringing allergens into your home.

ITA. I never heard of someone being allergic to a dog and not cats, usually it's the reverse.

Interesting, 4 of my cousins are highly allergic to dogs and not allergic to cats... I guess it could be they are so mildly allergic to cats that they don't show symptoms -- but that doesn't change the fact that they can be fine around cats, but not around dogs.

That's funny because my DH is allergic to cats and not dogs!! So it could be anything!!

Most important is finding out what exactly your DD is allergic to .. it must be very hard having a dog for all those years and having to re-home him..Chat Icon
