Need help crate training

So Dh just decided it would be a fabulous idea to bring home a new puppy to our new house. The puppy is a gorgeous Shiba Inu but it keeps pooping in the crate and all over my house. I'm losing my mind. The biggest problem is during the night. We feed her dinner early to make sure she doesn't have to go at night but the past two mornings I have woken up to poop all over the crate. HELP!!!!

Unfortuantely part of training a puppy is waking up in the middle of the night until she is old enough to hold it. you should be probably letting her out every 4 hours. In the very beginning I was doing it every 2 hrs, I dont know if thats the norm but it worked and my dog as only had 2 accidents in my house since the day I got her. She will be 2 in sept. I am not saying do the 2 hours but certainly do the 4. before you know it its over and your dog is trained.. G/L Chat Icon

I would love to see pictures.. i am not familiar with that breed.. puppies rule!

curious, where do you have the crate?

In the beginning, you may want to have it in your bedroom. My guess is that he can also suffering from anxiety.

Puppies need to be taken out every 4 hours or so. So, don't expect a full night out of the pup yet, it is unlikely. The crate should be in your bedroom with you overnight so that the puppy can sense your presence and that you can hear it and take it out.
DH and I also invested in Poochie Bells, I have posted info on them before, you can google them or fm me for more info if you can't find the posts.
It is hard work in the beginning, not unlike a baby! Eventually the pup will be able to sleep thru the night and not poop or pee until morning. May take a few months. How old is the puppy?

How big is the crate? Is it big enough where the puppy can stand, turn around, etc... if so, I would make it just small enough where the puppy can sleep comfortable. They usually do not go where they sleep, so this will help with that.

I kind of got lucky I guess with my Pup. We got her at 9 weeks old and crated her from day one. She has never had an accident in the crate, but then again you must train them, stick to it, take them out every 4 hours or so at first. We also put a bed in the crate that takes up the entire floor of it, this way she knows that this is her bed, where she sleeps and not where she should do her business.

It gets a lot easier as time goes on. It's night and day from when we first got Bella.

Good luck
