Location of hospital
My ObGyn is affiliated with LIJ.
I know it's so soon, but I wonder if we are too far from there. We live in Amity Harbor. (It would probably take about 40 minutes to get there).
This is one of the questions I want to ask her on Wed. at my second appt.
I spoke to a couple friends who have given birth and they told me not to worry about it.
That most likely if I go into labor, I will have plenty of time to get there, and if it's a planned C-section, location is really not an issue.
My one friend said this hospital is good too because if anything "goes wrong" they have an emergency unit there.

Definitely do not worry about it. It is most important that you have found a hospital with which you are comfortable. When I delivered my first daughter, I lived in the city, and came out to NSUH to have her! Naturally, there was loads of time.

When my mom was pg with my sister (3rd pg) she lived in Ronkonkoma and had to go to winthrop in Mineola. She was fine!

I live in Babyon and i insist on having the baby at Winthrop...do not care about the distance!!!!

I live in Holbrook and I'm going to St Catherine's...it takes 1/2 hour without ANY traffic. You'll be fine!

We live 2 miles door to door from LIJ where we will deliver. You can hang with us if ya need to!

I wouldn't worry about it - it is a good hospital to go to if something should happen - You can just adjust when you go to the hospital based on how far you are away - there was a possibility DD would need immediate surgery upon birth and couldn't be fed until she had the surgery - so I decided to deliver at Columbia - I drove there from Nassau - I just knew how long it could take me to get there and spoke with my dr about it and he told me to go when contractions were 7 mins apart versus the 5 minutes they tell others.

I deliver at Winthrop
I had PLENTY of time to get there with #1, and I'm not worried about it with #2 either.

I'm frpm Howard Beach Queens. This will be my 3rd time giving birth at LIJ. I've had no problems getting to the hospital in time for delivery. Hopefully this one will be the same

I live in Nesconset and delivered at LIJ (I actually had to go there 3 times that day!). It was worth it though, a great experience and I was so secure since Schneider's was right there, just "in case" as you mentioned.
