i was at a dinner party in the city and in coming back to my seat i accidentally knocked over and broke a wine glass.

i was so embarrassed and i felt absolutely terrible!

they were very nice about it but i am sure it was very expensive (everything is reidel in that home) and i would like to do something nice to makeup forthe glass i broke.

any suggestions?
thanks

Re: what would you do?

If it were me, I wouldn't get them much, maybe some flowers or a new set of Riedels. Glasses can break and I wouldn't be that mad, I probably wouldn't be angry and would accept it and get over it. Chat Icon

Re: what would you do?

that is very nice of you to want to do something special.
im sure anything you do will be greatly appreciated.

people understand that accidents happen. im sure they don't expect you to replace their glass.

if i broke a fine china plate, i would jump to replace it but for a wine glassChat Icon i think an apology is all you owe them.

I agree with this - if I broke a piece of their china, I would replace it for sure. but not a glass.

Re: what would you do?

last summer when my family from Finland stayed in our house before the wedding, my aunt broke a wine glass- no biggie to me- it was Mikasa Cheers, which is pretty inexpensive......anyhoo.....when I came back from the honeymoon, I had TWO new wineglasses waiting for me on my DR table. I wouldn't have expected it, but I appreciated how thoughtful my aunt was!!! Of course these were pretty cheap glasses......

let me ask you- how well do you know this person? If you think you'll be racked w/ guilt over it, or embarrassed if you go there again- get a gift card. But otherwise I wouldn't try to replace it, I would not have expected my aunt to replace ours, even w/ them being cheap.

Re: what would you do?

aww - i'm like you - i would feel HORRIBLE and have to do something. i guess the best thing to do is try to look up what glasses like that cost and get them a GC for it but you may run the risk of making them feel really bad that you did that - oyyy this is why i'm never good at this stuff!

if it were me i would not be upset in the least - accidents happen but if it were me that knocked it over, of course, i would be SO upset.
