would you say something?

We are renting 2nd floor of the 2family house, the landlady, an old woman lives downstairs and she is almost deaf, the doorbell rang I went downstairs and it was her grandson , going to visit her or whatever(they live down the block), I come upstairs and my DD is awake ,crying, after only sleeping for 20 min, here is the worst part, this is the 3RD time this week he rang MY bell and 2nd time he WOKE UP the baby , b/c the woman wasn't home or didn't hear her bell. Baby or not, it's not my job to stop whatever I am doing, go downstairs and open the door for her grandkids, plus they know I have a baby, and why can't she give them the keys, they are always here anyways. Am I being crazy? Should I say something to him or to the old lady? What would you do?
Can't wait to finally buy a house and get out

Re: would you say something?

I would put a note on the bell not to ring it & I wouldn't bother going down if it wasn't for me.

Next, I would disable the doorbell in my apartment.

problem is that I don't know if it's for me or not unless I go downstairs. Chat Icon

Re: would you say something?

I would DEFINITELY put a note....
or just tell him... Please try not to ring my bell because the baby is sleeping.

A note right over your bell may do the trick!Chat Icon

Re: would you say something?

I would put up a perpetual sign that reads in bold letters

SLEEPING BABY!!!!!
DO NOT RING BELL!!!!

Then I would tell granny to give them a key or get a hearing aid.....

Re: would you say something?

I wonder how much it could cost to get a separate doorbell? Is that something you could look into?

Can you talk to them about changing the ringing bell to a blinking light?
I know it won't help with company that isn't coming to see you, but at least it won't wake the baby.

we do have a separate doorbel for our floor, that's the whole problem, that they ring our bell if the old lady isn't answering her door bell on the first floor.that is why I am so mad

I would first try what previous posters have suggested, put a note out there.

I would tell them in person. I think the note could could seem a little "cold" whereas an "oh by the way please don't ring my bell because....." conversation on your way into the house will take care of the situation right away.

yeah THAT is a different story. i would be pissssssssssed if they kept ringing my bell because their G-ma isn't answering. that is not your problem--its theirs.

yeah the next time it happens i would make sure you let them know NOT to ring your bell again--and then post a note on it afterwards as well. that's just rude as hell on their part

Re: would you say something?

I would talk to your Landlady, be honest, that they keep ringing your bell and waking up the baby, if she's indifferent, then put up the note, and if they do it again, when you answer the door tell them that you're not the butler, if thier grandmother didn't answer then they can't come in!
