I know what you mean about waiting--- I've been forced to play the waiting game more than I'd like.
It can't hurt to call him- but I have a feeling that since you have to be monitored on it, he may tell you to wait for now and discuss it at your next appointment.
How long have you been trying? You help pay his salary, so I say - give him a call. Tell him that waiting is driving you nuts, and you don't see how you can wait another month and a half. Tell him you'd like to be more aggressive about this, and continue on the metformin as well, to regulate your body. HTH!

I agree, call and ask to be put on Clomid. They'll have you in for the proper monitoring. If you feel like you're wasting time, take charge. Good luck!!!
