can you try and rename it? change it from .mix file to a .jpg?
If you have picasa, you should be able to do it using it.

Yes, tried renaming it and I am not sure we have that program here at work

I suggest you try google picasa.
Picasa is Google's photo software. It can edit , organize and share your pictures and small video clips.
It's easy to use and is free.

.mix extensions are Microsoft PhotoDraw, or Picture It formats. You may be able to open the file in Microsoft Word. You'll probably need to import the image in.
I looked around, and Picasa WON'T deal with .mix files. Neither will GIMP.
