Does slow service bother you?
I'm not talking about when you have 30 minutes for a lunch break, but if you are out for the evening, and go out to eat, or stop for ice cream, etc, and the service is slow... not standing around ignoring you, but working slowly...
Today, we went to the Tulip festival, and hung out in huntington, got the kids fries for dinner, and then went over to Ralph's Ices. There was a small line. there were 2 girls working slowly. They just didn't have it down yet. People were mumbling and grumbling, leaving the line, complaining its taking forever, etc...
i don't know, maybe its just me, but I see going out for ice cream or ices sort of a stress free event. No one shows up famished for ices, and its a nice thing to get while walking around town, you know? Where are people rushing on a Sunday evening?
Yeah, it took a while, but we were out together as a family, and we all got our ices and the world didn't end while waiting for them....
This is coming from someone who can't bear the sound of people eating or saying "times it." I guess I need to not stress about soemthing, huh?

I'm pretty patient so it wouldn't bother me.
I'm good at waiting on lines short or long.

Re: Does slow service bother you?
To be honest, it depends on my mood.
If I am in a good mood and the boys are behaving and we are just out for a stroll.. I don't mind waiting.
If I am in a ripe, rotten mood and one or both of the boys is acting up or Rob is annoying the mess out of me or I have 1000 things to do and really don't want to be on line to begin with - well the slow working would definitely bug me.
Would I complain to them? Nope. Would I walk off the line? Probably not. Would you hear a grumble or a sigh or two from my general direction? Probably! But ices make it all better. So I'd recover pretty fast!

Thats the thing though - would you be going out for ices if those things were all going on? I can understand the supermarket, or somewhere like that - but stopping for ices seems more to me like - hey, we have nothing to do - lets get ices!

Re: Does slow service bother you?
It would depend on the reason -- in your case no it wouldn't bother me. If it's because the cashier/employee is goofing around or the person in front of me cant get their act together, then yes it bothers me.

Re: Does slow service bother you?
I hate that!
I am a very patient person in situations like that. I really can't stand to hear people huffing and puffing behind me. Its not going to make things better by complaining.
Some people just nned to relax and take a deep breath.

For that type of thing, no it doesn't bother me.
I was in an airport cafe in Minnesota last summer and they were moving so slow. I know it's not a NY deli, but it's a airport! People have places to be! I waited for our food, but I was so annoyed.

Re: Does slow service bother you?
i think technology has increased impatience in society... everybody wants things done NOW or YESTERDAY.
i'm noticing this in our patients too---it's disturbing...will it kill you to wait a few more minutes for a cup of ice or a packet of ketchup? it's not the end of the world, people...
i'm with you, liza. people need to get a grip.

Re: Does slow service bother you?
DH & I didn't realize the tulip festival ended at 4 today...we showed up at 3:40 OOPS!
Either way.......I think it depends on my mood.
I think going to Ralphs, especially if you are from Huntington and know that it literally just opened that things are gonna be slower...you should be a little bit more patient. PLUS it was a beautiful day out...I couldn't of been in a bad mood even IF they were slow.
I will say the Cold Stone in Huntington drives me NUTS.....I went in there about a month ago and the kid first off all had rap blasting in there and i thought that was inappropriate & kept stopping and walking away to do something else...I actually ended up walking out b/c it was so annoying....so i think it depends....if the employees are trying and you can see that, then it's different but if they are blatantly being lazy then I get annoyed....especially in cold stone...that ice cream is expensive haha
p.s. I was TOTALLY excited that a Ralphs one opened up IN the village (now I don't have to drive down to the one by Prime!)

I am a good waiter when I am not hungry or too tired, so it wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest.
But I did leave NY to live the slower life

Yeah - sometimes. For example - last weekend I was in a god awful mood. I was sad and miserable and I did NOT want to be out and about. But that wasn't my boys fault. And I couldn't decide that the world was going to stop and we were going to stay home while I wallowed. So we went to ride bikes and afterwards i took them to Carvel. And the girl was SLOOOOOOOW. My mood was also not the fault of the slow countergirl - so I didn't complain - but my mood definitely heightened my sense of irritation.

Re: Does slow service bother you?
It depends on the situation and my mood.
When I was on vacation last month- we were at Megan's Bay in St. Thomas. We only had a few hours there and the concession line was long and the people were soooooo sllooooow!! It was a little aggravating, but I realize those people are on "Island Time." I just wanted to lay on the beach!

Me too! I've worked in customer service ringing people up, and I always tried to be as fast as possible to make things run more smoothly. Meanwhile I'd be next to someone purposely ringing up reeaallllyyyy slowly because they figured hey, we don't get paid more depending on how quickly we work, so why not go super slowly and have fewer people on that line. I think there is a general decrease in the work ethic of young people, and that is contributing to the slow lines everywhere. Take pride in your job, even if it's scooping ice cream or ringing up groceries.
