Could I possibly have sciatica issues this early?
I'm only just over 11 weeks but I feel the worst pain in my upper butt cheek (sorry tmi) on my right side only - not quite my lower back but relatively close. It feels like a pulled muscle.
Any thoughts?
I hope this is NOT a sign of things to come.

Re: Could I possibly have sciatica issues this early?
About 2 weeks ago (at 17 weeks) I was having a nerve pinch in my left butt cheek all day long. It was uncomfortable but not terrible. By that evening I was in the most excruciating pain ever!! I think the baby had shifted onto my sciatic nerve and I was crippled. I couldn't move my left leg at all, I couldn't walk, sit, stand, I was just stuck in pain. My DH had to practically carry me to bed but the GOOD news is that by the next morning I was able to walk and I felt better and by the afternoon is was as if nothing had happened. I guess the baby shifted again. We looked in all our pregnancy books and most said sciatica occurs in the 3rd trimester but some women experience it earlier. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones!!

Re: Could I possibly have sciatica issues this early?
I'm not that far along yet and haven't had back issues with pregnancy, but I have had various back issues since I was a teenager. A few years ago I had very bad sciatic pain as the result of a herniated disc. For me, the key that it was sciatica was that it was only one side of my butt and all the way down my leg into my calf. When I have regular lower back bain, sometimes it goes across the top of my whole butt, but not down either leg. In that case, it's usually just a muscle ache and a good massage helps.

Re: Could I possibly have sciatica issues this early?
I'm just at week 14 and have had the same thing for like 3 weeks. I asked the dr .. he said its a "compressed nerve" and it just has to work itself out, and it may last the rest of the pregnancy
good luck .. hope you feel better

Re: Could I possibly have sciatica issues this early?
I had sciatica pains starting at about 4 wks...it was awful couldnt move at times...they were pretty bad until about 20wks where they started getting better...after about 22 wks I was actually pretty good until the end of course with the normal back pains!!!
they may ease up for you...maybe start massage or chiro?
